**Duties**

** Summary**

This position is located in the Facilities Engineering Department (AFM-EN), Facilities Management (AFM) Division of the National Gallery of Art. The incumbent serves as the Assistant Manager of the Facilities Engineering Department and reports directly to the Head of Facilities Engineering. Incumbent assists and advises the Head of Facilities Engineering by providing technical support and consultation on all aspects of facility engineering management.

**Responsibilities**

The incumbent:

Coordinates with engineers and architects, both in house and contract, in facility design and development to ensure that all technical areas of overlapping responsibilities of technical disciplines receive proper design consideration and that the total project objectives and schedules are met. Provides technical direction to up to ten (10) technical staff members to include engineering technicians, draftsmen, professional engineers and contracting officer representatives (CORs).

Plans, prepares, directs and manages the design and construction of a variety of projects at the National Gallery of Art. Has responsibility for these projects from inception to completion and for project assessment, evaluation and follow up activities. Participates with key institution staff in determining project needs, defining project goals and developing plans for accomplishing projects. **Travel Required**

Must have completed a rigorous engineering program of study, consistent with OPM requirements. The employee is required to work on ladders, scaffolds and platforms. The employee must be able to work in cramped, hazardous and isolated locations. The employee must be able to climb, stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend and stoop. The employee must be able to work in areas with sudden changes in temperature, humidity, dust, noise, odor and light levels. The employee must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment.

** Qualifications**

Candidates must meet the requirements for the GS-801-14. For this position, specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, managing a component of a major facility that is frequented by the public.
