The Washington, DC office of SmithGroup is currently accepting applications for a Space Planner to work out of the Social Security Administration (SSA) Office in Baltimore, Maryland. At this time the position follows a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three full days per week to be worked at SSA's Baltimore, Maryland campus.

Working with us, you will:

  • Perform space programming to capture client requirements.
  • Develop spatial test fits and a schematic design of spaces. Perform facility code analysis to determine spatial test fits adhere to code requirements such as ABA, NFPA, GSA PBS-P100.
  • Develop design and construction drawings, including minor mechanical, electrical and other building systems construction drawings as it relates to the project.
  • Perform quantity takeoff and develop cost estimates.
  • Develop and give client presentations of the project during the various phases of design and construction. Utilize AutoCAD and Revit for presentations and documentation.
  • Perform space surveys to capture various spatial elements for projects and planning needs.
  • Assist with various space planning administration such as updating floor plans, cubicle signage installation, and maintenance efforts.
  • Perform project management throughout the life cycle of a project from concept to construction closeout.
  • Work on special studies and projects as it relates to space planning and project management at the agency.

An ideal candidate has:

  • 4 to 8 years of space planning experience
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Photoshop
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Interior Design
  • Architectural registration or NCIDQ preferred
