Farm Hand / Grounds Maintenance

Location: Oberlin OH

Smith Family Farm Ohio is a vibrant agricultural property spanning 68 acres, encompassing lush orchards, assorted vegetable gardens, corn and pumpkin fields, as well as a variety of animals including goats, chickens, and bees. Job Description:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and versatile Farm Hand / Grounds Maintenance worker to assist with various tasks related to farm operations and property maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a passion for agriculture and a willingness to contribute to the growth and success of our farm.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the cultivation and maintenance of crops, including apples, cherries, assorted vegetables, corn, and pumpkins.
  • Care for a variety of animals on the farm, including goats, chickens, and bees.
  • Assist with the production of honey from on-site beehives.
  • Perform manual labor tasks such as feeding livestock, operating farming equipment (including tractors), and tending to crops.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and machinery.
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve farm goals.
  • Conduct necessary repairs and maintenance on farm buildings and infrastructure.
  • Eliminate weeds and apply pesticides as needed to maintain crop health.
  • Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, clearing trails, and maintaining fences.
  • Assist with the production of firewood and charcoal from wooded areas on the property.
  • Please note that this job description is not exhaustive; the ideal candidate will be open to new ideas and tasks as the farm portion of the role grows, including research and execution of such tasks, along with other items that may arise, such as property upkeep and maintenance of the barn, which extends to the residential property.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of animal husbandry and crop cultivation.
  • Ability to perform manual work in various weather conditions.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating farming and land equipment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks.
  • Experience in feeding and caring for livestock.
  • Proficiency in operating hand tools and heavy equipment, such as tractors.
  • Knowledge of weed elimination techniques and organic application.
  • Willingness to assist with ground maintenance tasks as needed.

Experience with 4H or Future farmers of America
