SLO County YMCA is Hiring a Youth Sports Program Leader Near San Luis Obispo, CA

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Sports Program Director and/or Sports Program Coordinator, the Sports Program Leader is responsible for the supervision, safety, and wellbeing of youth participating in a variety of sports programs located in San Luis Obispo county.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises a group of assigned children.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Follows CDC and County Department of Health standards, procedures and recommendations provided to them around health screening, physical distancing, and sanitizing.
  • Keeps assigned areas neat, clean, organized, sanitized, and free of clutter.
  • Actively walk-through facility/program engaging with members/participants, keeping vigilant for potential health and/or safety risks, and cleans/disinfect and put away equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures that all equipment/supplies are in working order. If not, prompt action (or request for action) is taken.
  • Assist with the planning, developing and leading recreational and enhancement program activities for all participants, including those with special needs.
  • Provide instruction at the appropriate level.
  • Respond to all feedback in a courteous and timely fashion.
  • Keep supervisor informed of decisions and unresolved situation and/or issues.
  • Remain with the participants while they are signed into the program.
  • Be supportive of the YMCA’s inclusive recreation program.
  • Keep accurate daily records as required by site.
  • Maintain positive reinforcement for each child and willingness to work with Sire Director and parents to enhance each child’s experience in the program.
  • Attend staff training and all required staff meetings.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Bi-lingual Spanish desired
  • Wide range of sports knowledge. Previous instructor experience preferred.
  • Experience/ability to facilitate and communicate with diverse groups of children.
  • Direct experience working with youth in an active recreational and developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on the lives of youth
  • Experience with team building and youth development strategies.
  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Good organizational skills, initiative and proactive attitude

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid and Child Abuse

Prevention training.

  • Blood borne pathogens and concussion training as required.
  • Clear live scan (fingerprints) report.
  • Certifications need to remain current during employment.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour
