Living Oaks Church is a welcoming community in Thousand Oaks, California, dedicated to teaching the Bible and sharing the Gospel. Founded by Doug Posey in 2004 and led by Pastor Austin Axen since 2014, Living Oaks has been a pillar of faith for nearly two decades.
The church is home to a dedicated team of elders, pastors, staff, and volunteers who embody its warm, friendly atmosphere. They are committed to knowing Jesus and making Him known, a mission that is evident in all aspects of church life. Living Oaks focuses on biblical teaching, intentional evangelism, disciple making, faithful stewardship, and worship and prayer.

Every Wednesday night students gather for a time of fun, fellowship, and Bible study. Both Middle School and High School meet together and then break up into age- and gender-specific discipleship groups where they talk about being disciples of Jesus in everyday life!
Student Ministries (grades 6-12) meet once-a-month on Sunday mornings after worshipping in the adult worship service with their families! This is a time to dive into God’s Word at a student-specific level, often including illustrations, activities, and breakout groups.
Every year the Students Ministries heads to Hume Lake for a week of camp. This has been a long standing tradition that has greatly impacted the lives of many who attend Living Oaks.

Curriculum: Their Kids Ministries has used Orange in the past but has recently selected Generations of Grace as their new curriculum. It’s Bible-based, Gospel-centered, and user-friendly for volunteers!

Kids Programming
Kids Programming is offered on Sunday mornings during the adult worship service and is intended to be a safe and fun environment for kids of all ages to learn about Jesus! The classroom volunteers craft an incredible lesson plan including crafts and activities to illustrate the Bible story and, most importantly, how it leads to Jesus! The goal is to partner with parents, providing them with the resources they need to disciple their kids at home!
Living Oaks traditionally has four age groups for their Kids Ministries.
Each year Living Oaks puts on an incredible VBS program for ages 4 through Grade 5. This exciting week is a dynamic outreach event for the church as kids can invite their unchurched friends to attend for free. Every year there is a theme for VBS and the church is transformed into a place of wonder resembling that theme. Kids learn the truth of God's Word while having a blast.
CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY
The Student and Family Pastor will be responsible for the leadership of 6th to 12th Grade, directly focused on helping Students grow in their faith. This includes both a monthly Sunday morning gathering and a larger group Wednesday night program which includes a small group element. The right leader should creatively instill the Liveing Oaks vision to the student ministry environments.
Living Oaks Church models humble servant leadership that is people-oriented first. The desire for the church and family ministry is to see a leader who is highly relational in his approach to ministry. This approach will serve the new leader well if he builds into and builds up the current group of volunteers leading the kids and student ministry.
The Student Ministry is in need of a leader who can minister to parents and families in meaningful ways that help carry out the church vision. The desire for Living Oaks Church is to see parents who are equipped and cared for and families who grow closer together.
The new Student and Family Pastor will have a nice long on-ramp to assess both the kids and student ministries. There is no sense of panic, only hope for what can be in the future. Both ministries have a good foundation, service structure, curriculum, and scheduled events that will carry them through a transitional period. This new leader will have the opporunity to collaborate with the current team and re-imagine the ministry philosophy and methodology that best meets the needs of the Living Oaks community.
While there are a some quality devoted volunteers, the new leader will need to recruit and build teams and leaders to lead the ministry forward! . Living Oaks has a strong history of volunteerism. With fresh vision and developing relationships, this new leader will find loyal and committed volunteers for both ministries.
Everything that the Students and Kids Ministries do is focused on the radical nature of God's grace and the Gospel. This is evident in the teaching style and intentional discussion of Scripture in small groups.

Description: Living Oaks Church is seeking a Student and Family Pastor to lead, teach, disciple, and reach the next generation of kids, students, and families of our church and community. This individual will create and lead a Gospel-centered ministry that seeks to disciple the next generation providing engaging teaching, relational connection, leadership development, parental partnership, and community outreach. This position requires a godly and gifted individual who is ready to direct programs and develop teams in order to reach and engage kids, students, and families for Christ as a member of the pastoral team.
Purpose: To create and lead a disciple-making and family-oriented ministry that teaches kids the Bible, engages students with the Gospel, and equips volunteers, parents, and families with the resources they need to reach the next generation, cultivating a multi-generational family that’s fully alive in Christ.
Qualifications: In addition to featuring a strong calling to pastoral ministry, agreeing with our statement of faith, and meeting the biblical qualifications for spiritual leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–8 and Titus 1:5–9, this position requires the requisite education and experience for the role, including a minimum of thirty units in Christian education and three years of employment in full-time ministry.
