Slingshot Biosciences, Inc. is Hiring a Scientist I - Cell Therapy Near Emeryville, CA

Slingshot Biosciences is looking for a Scientist to join the Cell Therapy Team to advance early-stage cell-based unit operations for in vivo cell therapy applications using cell mimics for CAR-T therapies. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across multiple teams within Slingshot Biosciences to develop and perform in vitro preclinical assays to evaluate CAR-T cell mimics phenotype and functionality: this includes designing and executing in vitro flow cytometry assays and cytokine secretion analyses to evaluate the potency of our engineered CAR-T cell mimics.

Responsibilities 
  • Design and perform in vitro assays evaluating the potency and functional activity of engineered CAR-T cell mimics
  • Perform routine cell culture to maintain various cell lines
  • Develop and optimize cellular assays including co-culture assays for mechanistic investigation
  • Establish strong in-house capabilities to perform in vitro experiments with high throughput
  • Analyze data and communicate results clearly and effectively to program teams, senior leadership, and other colleagues
  • Conduct and support in vivo studies to evaluate efficacy, mechanism of action, tolerability, and/or pharmacokinetics of novel therapeutics 
  • Work cross-functionally with Scientists and Research Associates across departments to advance program objectives
  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental methods, tool development and protocols

Requirements 

  • Ph.D. degree (or equivalent) in Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related scientific discipline, with 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience in human T cell immunology or CAR-T cells
  • Alternatively, M.S. degree (or equivalent) with 4 years of experience in the fields of human T cell immunology or CAR-T cells
  • Experience with research scale cell and tissue culture techniques with primary cells or established cell lines 
  • Experience with cell viability assays, cell-based fluorescence and chemiluminescence assays
  • Proficiency and independence performing flow cytometry, cytokine analysis methods such as ELISA, MSD, EliSpot and other functional and phenotypic assays for in vitro characterization of T cells
  • Experience with CAR-specific functional assays (cytotoxicity, cytokine release, proliferation) 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to apply rigorous and creative thinking to address complex research problems
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities, and ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team to achieve shared objectives
  • Technical attention to detail, and experience in maintaining rigorous lab documentation
  • Resourcefulness in overcoming challenges, and the ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate results (verbal and written) effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Our salary ranges are calculated by role and level. Your position within that range will be determined by your job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, and training/certifications. In addition to those factors, we also examine internal equity as well as consider current market rate, and title may be assessed one level lower or higher accordingly. After you join the company your performance, contributions, and results along with business and organizational needs will affect your base salary. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $110,000 - $140,000 equity benefits.
