COST ESTIMATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION
Cost Estimator will perform quotes for new products per customer blue prints and CAD models. This position is required to develop preliminary manufacturing cycle-times, perishable tooling cost, capital equipment cost, packaging, freight, and operation cost for new products. The ability to define manufacturing operations, understand GD&T, estimate cycle-times by operation, define special tooling, and create preliminary work-holding/tooling descriptions are a requirement of this job. This position will work as a liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Accounting departments in order to capture best practices for quoting purposes. Processes defined by this position will provide accurate cost values for new business opportunities. Additionally, this position will work with the Sales team to provide final Quote Letters and required quote details developed within the Estimating department.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare an estimated manufacturing process, by operation, in order to produce product to customer provided prints and/or CAD models.
  • Provide preliminary requirements for process fixturing and special tooling for Skyway’s manufacturing needs.
  • This person must be able to calculate cycle-times on CNC equipment.
  • Review in-coming RFQ’s with Sales and Management to verify quote vs. no quote.
  • Supply information or blue prints to purchasing and/or RFQ Coordinator on anything that Skyway does not perform in-house (i.e. castings, steel, heat treat, outside services, tooling, fixtures for pricing).
  • Review and analyze current financial cost that effects the estimating process.
  • Some items include freight/weight cost, packaging material cost, material surcharge, exchange rates, equipment rates, labor rates, and fixed overhead cost.
  • This person must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. The ability to understand and create complex formula-based spreadsheets is required.
  • Formalize estimating quote sheets into final customer quote letters.
  • Perform re-quotes on existing product.
  • Assist in cost analyst review of existing products for profitability.
EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
Required experience in Production Manufacturing, estimating, CNC machining, and engineering.
Preferred but not required, experience in casting processes and diesel engine components a plus.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Products proficiently. Specifically, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Can function basic task in a 3D model viewer or CAD software is a plus. Experience with manufacturing programming software MasterCAM is a plus.
