Job Overview:

As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing medical claims and invoices to ensure timely reimbursement from insurance companies, government payers, and patients. You will play a crucial role in the revenue cycle management process by translating healthcare services into billable claims, resolving billing discrepancies, and maximizing revenue generation for SJH Derm.

Key Responsibilities:

· Enter patient demographic and insurance information into billing systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.

· Generate and submit electronic or paper claims to insurance companies and government payers in accordance with billing guidelines and regulations.

· Monitor claim status and following up on unpaid or rejected claims to identify and resolve billing issues in a timely manner.

· Post payments, adjustments, and denials to patient accounts, reconciling billing transactions, and maintaining accurate billing records.

· Verify insurance eligibility and benefits coverage for patients, obtaining pre-authorizations and referrals as needed.

· Resolve billing inquiries, answer phone calls, and respond to emails from patients, insurance representatives, and internal leadership.

· Review billing reports and accounts receivable aging summaries to identify overdue balances, unpaid claims, and billing discrepancies.

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of billing activities, correspondence, and account resolution efforts in EHR and/or billing software.

· Communicate with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies to address billing inquiries, disputes, and appeals.

· Adhere to billing regulations, compliance standards, and HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality and ensure ethical billing practices.

· Participate in training and professional development activities to stay updated on changes to billing regulations, coding guidelines, and reimbursement policies.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, clinical staff, coders, and administrative staff, to streamline billing processes and optimize revenue cycle performance.

Qualifications:

· Proficiency in medical billing software, EHR, and billing-related applications; Nextech preferred.

· Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic coding principles (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).

· Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and data entry skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives.

· Knowledge of insurance billing processes, reimbursement methodologies, and third-party payer requirements.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

· Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism in handling sensitive billing information.

SJH Derm is a group of 5 employee-owned dermatology practices, and we are looking for an enthusiastic Billing Specialist to be based in our administrative office in La Grange, IL. Pay: From $55,000.00 per year
