SJCA Inc. is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector to work on TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS, including roadway and bridge projects in and around Fort Wayne, Indiana area.

The qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in Construction Inspection for various INDOT related projects, and will have familiarity with the INDOT process of roadway plan and specifications development. The applicant must be able to work within a team or independently, and travel when needed within the State of Indiana, primarily in Evansville and Southwestern Indiana area Construction Inspectors ensure that construction meets local and national codes and ordinances, zoning regulations, and contract specifications. Construction inspectors on our team examine highways and streets. They perform an initial check during the first phase of construction and follow up inspections throughout the project. Upon completion of the project, they perform a final, comprehensive inspection and provide written and oral feedback related to their findings.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Perform inspection and observation of roadway and bridge construction projects
Document daily inspection activities.
Act as the liaison between the client/designer and Department of Construction Services
Maintain frequent communication with project designer and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) or Local Planning Authority (LPA).
Review work plans, constructability reviews, and site inspections during construction.
Position includes approximately 20% office coordination between phone and emails and 80% travel to do field checks
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Basic computer knowledge and skills. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to maintain and complete accurate and concise reports.
Ability to read and interpret plans and identify errors and omissions.
Possess good organizational skills and ability to manage many tasks simultaneously.
Possess good time management skills and time recording skills.
Ability to complete multiple projects within established schedules.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability and willingness to work in inclement weather
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completed of INDOT Certified Technician Program (CTP)
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have valid transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
2 to 5 years of experience in the inspection of federally and locally funded road and bridge transportation projects is preferred.
INDOT Material Testing Certification
Knowledge of INDOT standards and procedures.
