SIU Medicine is Hiring a General Neurologist (Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology) - S Near Springfield, IL

Description

This position will provide specialized care for patients with neurologic disease in the SIU Neuroscience Institute, and will be responsible for teaching the discipline to medical students and residents.

Examples of Duties

I. Teaching 10%
1. Presentation of lectures, seminars, conferences and rounds for residents and students (Years II, III and IV).
2. Participate in Neurology grand rounds (attend weekly, present periodically).
3. Participate in the basic science and other didactic curricula for neurology residents.
4. Conduct clinical (bedside and otherwise) teaching of neurology and other house staff and medical students in the outpatient clinic and during rounds on inpatient service at assigned hospital(s).
II. Service (Patient Care) 80%
1. Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the University practice plan (SIU Healthcare).
2. Conduct 8 half -days of outpatient clinics per week including supervision of resident clinic.
3. Provide inpatient care through consultations and, when appropriate, principal care as part of weekly rotations on the neurology inpatient service at assigned hospital(s).
4. Provide outreach outpatient clinics as needed.
III. Administration 5%
1. Serve on university, departmental and hospital committees as needed.
2. Participate in scheduled meetings as a member of the hospital staff at St. John's Hospital, Springfield Memorial Hospital, Decatur Memorial Hospital and other partners as needed.
IV. Research 5%
(Time devoted to research will be raised or lowered depending on a faculty member's productivity and career goals. Time in research can/will be moved to teaching or clinical service, accordingly.)
1. Participate in clinical trials of new therapies for neurologic disease.
2. Publish research in peer reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.
3. Present at regional, national and international scientific meetings.

Qualifications
  1. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
  2. Graduate of accredited medical school program
  3. Graduate of formal specialty training program in Neuorology
  4. Board certified or board eligible in Neurology
  5. Licensed to practice medicine as a Neurologist in the State of Illinois or eligible for such licensure
