CAREER PATHWAYS COORDINATOR

What We Do

Sitar Arts Center engages DC youth, from early childhood to young adulthood, in building a creative community of learning and belonging that removes financial and cultural barriers to arts education and career training. We envision a city in which all young people experience transformative moments through quality, accessible arts education and career training and are supported on their path to discover their creativity and achieve their full potential.

At Sitar Arts Center, students engage in affordable, high-quality education and workforce development in the visual, digital, and performing arts. Each semester, 80% of students are from Washington DC households at 60% or less of the area median income. Programs take place year-round during out-of-school time in Sitar's state-of-the-art facilities, which feature an 85-seat theater, visual and digital art studios, a dark room, dance studios, and private and ensemble instrumental music studios.

Located in the vibrant Adams Morgan neighborhood, Sitar's community includes youth from every ward in DC. Across the year, up to 900 students engage in high quality classes including instrumental music, ballet and hip-hop dance, acting and musical theater, digital photography and filmmaking, and more. Each summer children from K- 8th grade enjoy our full day, 6-week Camp Sitar and teens enroll in summer workforce development programs. Sitar's new ArtsAdvance program offers alternative pathways to careers in the creative industries for 18-24-year-olds.

Your Compensation 

Annual salary is commensurate with experience with a range of $50,000 - $51,500.

Your starting salary will be directly linked to your level of experience and expertise. Sitar values a transparent and equitable pay structure. In our compensation structure, the higher end of this salary range qualifies for a coordinator title and requires that a candidate demonstrate professional experience and success in all of the key qualifications. Candidates with only a few qualifications will qualify for the associate level title and base of this salary range.

When and Where You'll Work

The Career Pathways Coordinator is a hybrid in-person and remote role. In-person work is primarily at Sitar Arts Center, located in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC. You will also attend periodic evening and Saturday events, such as the annual gala and other fundraising events and student showcases and performances.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of administrative/project management related work experience in a professional environment or formal training or certification in a related field
  • Excellent organization and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate several projects at once

What You’ll Do 

As the Career Pathways Coordinator, you are the young adult engagement advocate, logistics champion, and professional development enthusiast of the team. As such the coordinator focuses their time on setting up new workforce development processes, engaging workforce development participants and program alumni, and providing exceptional assistance tracking and maintaining workforce development data.

As a member of the Innovation Team, which are the champions of youth development within the programsdepartment, you will help to structure and put into place what Sitar needs in order to strategically develop Sitar’s creative youth and young adult development endeavors.You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Youth Workforce Development and work closely with the entire Innovation Team to set vision and strategy for effectively and efficiently running team initiatives. 

Core Responsibilities Include: 

Project Management (40%)

Plan and manage effective and efficient systems and processes to improve program outcomes and team initiatives.

  • Lead the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of team initiatives to ensure clear communication, streamlined processes, and timely deliverables.
  • Research, develop, and implement systems that will support program and participant growth including but not limited to a job search system and a scholarship grant sharing system.
  • Assist Program Operations with managing workforce hiring and onboarding processes for participants, faculty, and project staff.
  • Collaborate with Communications to ensure team programs, events, and partnership programs are marketed in a timely manner and all engagement goals are met.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for all team initiatives, fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment for participants, faculty, staff, and partners.

Program Coordination (35%)

Collaborate with team to successfully design, implement, and manage team initiatives ensuring they are engaging and impactful.

  • Develop and manage the Summer Sitar Emerging Arts Leaders (S.E.A.L.) program, ensuring a smooth and successful experience for interns.
  • Oversee the implementation of various school year workforce development programs (e.g., career exploration workshops, industry guest speaker sessions, mock interview events).
  • Plan, structure, and implement engaging events for both workforce participants and alumni.
  • Oversee the development, evaluation, planning, and external placement for ArtsAdvance apprenticeships.
  • Conduct research and design professional development opportunities for Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) and ArtsAdvance alumni.
  • Support the continued development, iteration, and expansion of workforce programs through research, logistical support, and curriculum coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Innovation Team to develop and maintain instructional resources (e.g., lesson plans, training materials) and assessment tools for both faculty and workforce participants.
  • Assist with the full workforce development cycle, from application and registration support to onboarding processes for participants and project staff.

Data Management (20%)

Develop and maintain data collection processes to capture, analyze, and report the team’s programmatic information and outcomes.

  • Track and prepare reports on workforce, alumni, and S.E.A.L. data such as enrollment, retention, attendance, completion, employment, and participant data.
  • Manage the evaluation and assessment of workforce, alumni, and S.E.A.L. programs by coordinating feedback meetings, class visits, surveys, and focus groups.
  • Track and manage the Summer S.E.A.L. Internship Budget.

Miscellaneous (5%)

  • Foster and encourage a positive staff culture by embracing, living, and encouraging our values.
  • Provide support for Sitar events such as, but not limited to, semester registration, student performances, community events, volunteer appreciations, center tours, and the annual gala.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings, annual planning sessions, trainings and retreats.

And other duties as assigned by the Senior Manager of Youth Workforce Development.
