Description

Job Summary:

The Georgetown Visitation teacher is a professional educator dedicated to fulfilling the school’s mission to develop young women influenced by a Catholic and Salesian heritage to become the women of faith, vision and purpose of our philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively supports the mission and charism of the School; demonstrates an understanding of and enthusiasm for secondary education, for girls’ education, and for Catholic education
  • Enthusiastically supports those values by nurturing, sustaining, and modeling them to the students
  • Demonstrates a life-long love of learning and maintains the highest academic standards while meeting the individual needs of each student in the classroom and beyond
  • Each faculty member is responsible for implementing the curriculum developed by each department
  • Thoroughly prepares and presents course material and uses strategies to create the optimum learning environment
  • To borrow from noted professor of child psychology Margaret McFarland, conveys a passion for learning where attitudes are not taught, but caught by their students
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Good organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, proficient in Excel, Word, Google mail, other software as required
  • Some evening and weekend work is required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move around campus and into several non-ADA compliant buildings
  • Ability to lift and safely move objects up to 25 pounds; ability to work on a ladder to retrieve and maintain stock
  • Ability to talk; finger; grasp; sit for extended periods of time; and repetitive motion
  • Working conditions: this position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

Qualifications


Specific to Math:

Successful candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a strong academic background and at least 2 - 3 years teaching experience in a secondary school classroom (similar experience in a college setting will be considered).
