What does a Nurse Manager do at SND?
1. Fosters and affirms the charism of the community, God’s goodness and provident care in their services to members of the SND Community.
2. Responsible for all direct patient care on the unit through direction, supervision, and evaluation of resident care by nurses/nursing assistants.
3. Reports changes in patients’ conditions to a physician and responsible party promptly and takes follow up action as necessary. Completes accurate, timely documentation related to a patients change in condition.
4. Supervises the staff, enforces policies, and holds accountable these policies (cell phone, attendance, etc.) of the HCC and SND. Assists with disciplinary actions as needed. Partners with the DON and ADON to complete 90 day and annual performance appraisals.
5. Fosters a culture of collaboration and communication through team huddles, end of shift nursing report and co-ordination with ancillary departments, including community coordinators.
6. Initiates care plans are necessary. Meets with family and healthcare liaison for sisters to complete and carry out the best plan possible for the situation.
7. Ensures timely changeover of the MARS/TARS. Audits quarterly. Ensures that physician orders are taken off charts correctly and removed promptly.
8. Is actively aware & involved in all sisters safety in the provincial center. Works with staff to maintain a safe environment and initiates corrective action as needed.
9. Responsible for the charge nurse phone (1136).
10. Identifies sister needs and emergency situations, initiating immediate lifesaving measures in the absence of a physician.
11. Contacts the Director of Nursing (DON) in times of serious change in a sisters’ condition, hospitalization, eminent death and/or death.
12. Assigns and reviews nursing assessments and initiates development of individualized care plans. Reviews charts quarterly (for nursing assessment and ear flush) and ensures that they have been completed correctly and properly signed off.
13. Review completion/compliance of monthly VS assignment for Nurse Aides.
14. Serves as a leader and sets an appropriate example in the delivery of patient care, respectful communication & efficient performance of responsibilities.
15. Follows facility admission/discharge/transfer procedures and coordinates with other departments, physicians & ancillary service providers as needed.
16. Recognizes the Provincial Center is the sisters home and works to foster that environment through person centered care.
17. Demonstrates a focus on patient care and ensures that all shifts are covered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
1. Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio.
2. Ten years successful experience in the field of nursing and/or gerontology.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to comprehend and utilize professional educational materials, and willing to update required nursing skills.
5. Ability to establish and rearrange priorities.
6. Ability to communicate with direct staff as needs arise.
7. Ability to approach people in a manner, which creates harmony and promotes cooperation.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position may entail evening and weekend work. Must live the mission of SND USA and maintain and build a positive work environment.
