Surgical Technologist

Singing River Health System Hospital - Gulfport | Part-Time | 6:30am - 3:00pm 1 shift per pay period and 2 on call days a month

Position Overview

The primary function of the Surgical Technologist is as a "scrub technologist" in the surgical suite and other clinical areas. The surgical technologist, under the guidance of the physician and registered nurse, is responsible for implementation of AST Standards which provide for safe and effective techniques and processes for quality patient care. The surgical technologist must possess strong interpersonal skills and a surgical conscience. The Surgical Technologist helps in the preparation of the room before surgery. He/She is responsible for all items required for their surgical table, including all required instrumentation and sutures.

Education

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program (or equivalent) or on-the-job training provided SRHS.

Certification

Current Surgical Technology Certification preferred. Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation. Must maintain current BCLS certification.

Experience

Possesses a thorough knowledge of AST process standards.

Physical Demands

Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-day activities. Auditory acuity to hear patient verbal communication and gather data using auscultory skills. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 6-7 hrs per 8 hr shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great deal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Must have high energy level and be capable of handling high pressure situations. May be exposed to communicable disease or radiation.

Mental Demands

Keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute and chronically ill patients.Communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress level for 6-8 hours/8 hour shift associated with care of acute patient/SO, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
