PositionOverview:
The Patient Care Associate provides basic nursing care (i.e.personal and restorative care) to patients according to predefined guidelines; aplan of care established by a Registered Nurse or LPN; and under the directsupervision of the Registered Nurse or LPN. The plan of care will utilize theCDC Guidelines for Infection Control as well as the Singing River Health SystemDepartments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance withSinging River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization(Joint Commission or DNV), and governing guidance and publications for healthcare employees

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Successful completionof Nurse Assistant/Aide program required. 
License:

Certification:
CurrentCertified Nursing Assistant certification recognized by the State ofMississippi Department of Health preferred.
Must complete BCLS certification by the end of position orientation; must maintain current BCLS certification.
Experience:
Equivalentrelated work experience or completion of a Nurse Aide program required.
Reports to:
Registered Nurse or LPN responsible for patient care managementduring a shift.
Supervises:
None.
Physical Demands:
Work requires physical exertion: Stands, turns, bends, stoops,lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-today activities.Auditory acuity to hear verbal communication and gather data using auscultoryskills. Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate effectively perscheduled shift and effectively manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasivelines. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a great dealof walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Must have high energy level. Maybe exposed to communicable disease or radiation. Must demonstrate ability toassist patients in transferring/ambulation; push-pull patients in wheelchair;turn/position bed-bound patients.
Mental Demands:
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Keen mentalfaculties/assessment and decision making skills in the management of acute andchronically ill patients. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orallyand in writing. He/She must demonstrate the ability to record observations andactivities, to follow oral and written directions/instructions, and establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with others. Emotional stability conducive to dealing with high presssituations and high stress levels during scheduled shift associated with careof acute patient/SO, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands ofpatients and families, and demands of maintaining effective workingrelationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
Special Demands:
Must be ableto utilize the computer to record and retrieve data - including proficiency inutilizing the electronic medical record.
