Sinai Health System is currently the largest provider of mental health services for west Chicago communities. For over 25 years, Sinai has offered outpatient therapy for children between ages 3-18 and their families through its Under the Rainbow (UTR) program, a community mental health center housed in Mount Sinai Hospital. Under the Rainbow works to prevent, reduce, and facilitate the recovery from childhood trauma. More than 85 percent of participating children have experienced life-altering traumatic events or have been exposed to complex trauma resulting in mental health, behavioral, or school problems. Therapeutic services are individualized and geared to promote the full well-being of children and adolescents, including the development and utilization of natural, family, and community support. These services promote resilience and emotional recovery. As a part of the resiliency and recovery process, UTR attempts to understand children in their cultural, familial, and community contexts, and supports families’ functioning in these various contexts. Services are provided in a variety of modalities, including individual, group, and family therapy, all utilizing a Trauma-Informed lens and evidence-based practices. Under The Rainbow provides services in Spanish and English, and utilizes a combination of in-person and telehealth services at this time. UTR is a multidisciplinary team of clinicians that includes psychologists, social workers, crisis workers, counselors, doctoral externs, and master’s interns. The Testing Psychologist position is a part-time (10-12 hours per week) grant-funded position.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive neuropsychological testing to children who have experienced childhood trauma and are suspected of having additional developmental diagnoses. Many such cases require specialized care to determine whether the source of their developmental challenges are related to autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, trauma, or some combination thereof. Therefore, we are looking for a candidate with experience in the selection, administration, interpretation, and integration of neuropsychological and psychological measures to rule out Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Cognitive Disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental diagnoses.
An ideal candidate will demonstrate experience working with children and adolescents who have experienced developmental/complex trauma, and knowledge of the following: achievement measures (WIAT-4), adaptive behavior scales (ABAS-3), behavioral symptom rating scales (BASC-3, Achenbach CBCL, Conners-4, GARS-3) cognitive assessment (WPPSI-IV and WISC-V), and neuropsychological assessment (NEPSY-II, TEAch-2). When available, these rating scales will be administered to parents/caregivers in Spanish. This person must be trained and certified to independently administer and interpret the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, 2nd edition (ADOS-2) in Spanish. Additionally, they must be trained in making autism diagnoses using the ADOS-2 paired with other neurodevelopmental rating scales such as the parent and teacher interviews, the SRS, SCQ, GARS-3, and Sensory Profile.
