YOU

As the Engineering Manager, R&D at Simpson Strong-Tie, you will lead the charge in driving innovation and excellence across multiple product lines, including fasteners, mechanical anchors, and installation tools. Your strategic vision and leadership will be pivotal in guiding our Research and Development team towards achieving long-term objectives while adhering to our mission of providing top-tier construction solutions worldwide. You will oversee the development of cutting-edge products, ensuring they meet rigorous standards of quality, safety, and performance. Collaboration, accountability, and adaptability will be core principles as you cultivate a dynamic team culture and foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Your role will extend beyond technical expertise to encompass strategic planning, project management, and industry insight, positioning Simpson Strong-Tie as a leader in construction technology on a global scale.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Prioritize, manage, and support the efforts of R&D team focused on Fastening Systems and Mechanical Anchors. Ensure that all activities are consistent, documented, communicated appropriately, continually improved, and aligned with Department and Company strategy and objectives. Maintain high-level communication of the team's progress with the broader organization, ensuring the value and impact of the team's work are recognized and understood. (50%)

Drive continuous innovation and efficient product development by guiding focused Research initiatives, encouraging experimentation, and ultimately consulting on the resulting New Product Development projects. (30%)

Foster a culture of growth and deep collaboration within the team. Recruit, mentor, and develop talent, ensuring team members are engaged, motivated, and equipped with the skills needed to excel. (10%)

Collaborate with other R&D teams, visit internal test labs, attend relevant conferences and trade shows, and visit end-users in the field to stay informed and contribute to the overall success of the organization. (10%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can meet the expectations outlined above, you're well-suited for this role. Additionally, possessing the following skills and experiences would be beneficial:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or an advanced degree in a related technical field is required.
  • Professional engineering licensure is desirable but not required.
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, MBA) is optional.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience with familiarity with various construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing individuals and/or projects independently with decision-making responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present information and respond to inquiries effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in analysis and reasoning, capable of making sound engineering judgments.
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative thinking, contributing to organizational and individual objectives.
  • Effective decision-making and judgment skills, balancing analysis, wisdom, experience, and perspective.
  • Proven ability in problem-solving, managing, and resolving conflicts constructively.
  • Demonstrated accountability and dependability, ensuring high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.
  • Customer-focused mindset, with the ability to build and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Strong self-management skills, displaying initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments on time.
  • Ability to influence others and gain cooperation to achieve goals.
  • Adept at building and sustaining cooperative working relationships within a team environment.
  • Leadership capabilities, including setting clear, meaningful, challenging, and attainable goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

This job requires domestic and international travel up to 10% of the time.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, exempt position is located in the greater Nashville, TN area, and can include a hybrid WFH schedule.

RELOCATION

Relocation may be considered for this position.

Pay

$102300 - $138100 / year

* Posted pay range is based upon national average and may vary depending on geographical work location.
