Hiring Med Techs and Resident Care Assistants
The main responsibility of a resident assistant is to assist residents. You would help residents with daily living, which might include using the toilet, bathing and washing, dressing, cooking, serving food and collecting food trays. You would also help with other tasks such as recreational and social activities. As an RCA you might provide assistance to residents who have limited mobility by helping them walk or transporting them in wheelchairs.
In addition, you may perform administrative tasks such as answering phones and greeting visitors and provide documentation of care and assistance.
Skills Needed
As a resident care assistant in an assisted living facility can be a physically demanding job. You would need to be actively involved with residents and perform a number of physical tasks, such as lifting, helping and transporting residents. In addition, you will need to be friendly, patient and compassionate when dealing with residents, especially those who might not be adjusted to the idea of living in an assisted living facility. You should also be nonjudgmental and open to working with people of different backgrounds and beliefs.
