Silver Lake Hospital is Hiring a LTACH Medical Coder Near Newark, NJ

Silver Lake Hospital of Newark, NJ is seeking to hire a full-time LTACH Medical Coder to assist the Medical Records department by assigning codes to medical procedures and diagnoses. The Specialist will utilize knowledge of insurance regulations, health insurance contracts, medical coding, and bookkeeping to perform a variety of activities. Our full-time LTACH Medical Coder will work Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts.

ABOUT SILVER LAKE HOSPITAL

Silver Lake Hospital is a long-term acute care hospital with a reputation of providing patients with a place to heal before heading home. A long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) is an acute care specialty hospital that provides highly advanced and focused care for higher acuity patients who have not responded to short-term treatment in traditional general hospitals. The average length of stay in an LTACH is 25 days as compared to a 3-5 day average stay in a general hospital. Our safe and state of the art hospital is designed to admit and care for the most critically ill patients.

POSITION SUMMARY

The LTACH Medical Coder will evaluate medical records and charge tickets to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with the International Classification of Diseases Manual - Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM), and the American Medical Associations Current Procedural Terminology Manual (CPT). The Coder will gather physician background information from various resources for reporting purposes. The Coder will also provide technical guidance and training on medical coding to physicians and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) issued by NAMSS.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in health information systems or related field preferred.
  • Two years of experience in medical record coding in an LTACH setting.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT coding guidelines; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; state and federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
  • Ability to research and analyze data, draw conclusions, and resolve issues; read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret medical procedures and terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and related documents and to maintain working relationships with physicians and other staff.
