Job Title Assistant Principal – Siloam Springs Intermediate School (Grades 5-6)

Qualifications

Applicants must have, or be able to obtain, a current Arkansas Elementary Building-Level Administrator License. Applicants must have effective leadership skills and experiences, along with a proven background in education. Previous administrative experience is preferred, but not required.

Job Goal

The assistant principal is responsible for supporting the principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe, and nurturing environment that is conducive to meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. The assistant principal works alongside the principal to fulfill the building mission and vision, and assists in the day-to-day operations.

Essential Job Functions

Instructional Leadership

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will:

  • Assist in ensuring curriculum, instruction, and assessments are aligned with Arkansas Academic Standards.
  • Assist in utilizing data to guide decisions related to increasing student success and improving professional practice.
  • Assist in the monitoring and implementation of the Arkansas R.I.S.E. initiative to improve literacy instruction and student results.
  • Assist in ensuring the application of differentiated teaching strategies and use of rich curricular materials.
  • Assist in conducting classroom observations and teacher evaluations using TESS while providing specific and meaningful feedback.
  • Assist in ensuring effective implementation of the Science of Reading practices, collect evidence of effectiveness and determine proficiency levels for each teacher as needed.
  • Assist in ensuring teachers are giving students multiple opportunities for success and providing viable interventions to support student growth.
  • Assist in the monitoring and implementation of Professional Learning Communities to improve instruction.
  • Provide teachers with timely, detailed feedback to assist them in their efforts to improve instructional practices.
  • Collaborate with staff to analyze student performance data and utilize results to inform programmatic and instructional decisions.
  • Coordinate the student intervention process.
  • Assist in ensuring school level improvement plans are implemented with fidelity.
  • Encourage and support staff participation in professional development opportunities to improve instructional and leadership capacities.
  • Assist in implementing processes and practices to protect and maximize instructional time.
  • Facilitate and promote teamwork at all levels.
  • All other duties as assigned by the building or district level administrator.

Managing and Leading Staff

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will: 

  • Assist with the supervision and evaluation of all certified and non-certified staff.
  • Assist in the interview and hiring process for all certified and non-certified staff.
  • Assist with the master schedule and student placement.
  • Review and approve timesheets.
  • Develop duty rosters and supervise implementation.
  • Assist with testing as needed.
  • Assist to ensure equitable allocation and effective use of financial, human, and technological resources to meet the instructional goals and support teachers need to maximize student learning.
  • Assist with the induction process for new/novice teachers.
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of supervision of lunch, common areas, hallways, and before/after school time periods.

Managing and Maintaining Facilities

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will:

  • Assist in supervision of the grounds and building and submit work orders for maintenance needs.
  • Assist in implementing policies and procedures that maintain a supportive, safe, healthy, orderly learning and working environment as reflected in the student handbook.
  • Assist with monitoring facility usage through joint use agreements.
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of safety drills
  • Assist with classroom and technology inventories.

School Culture

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will:

  • Assist in implementing a shared vision and mission
  • Assist in building and maintaining a school culture that meets the needs of the whole child.
  • Assist in building and maintaining acceptable standards of behavior for students and staff.
  • Collaborate and assist other staff on all student attendance issues, truancies, registrations, hotline calls, and Family in Need of Services (FINS) petitions.
  • Collaborate with other buildings to ensure positive, effective transitions.
  • Assist in reviewing/revising student handbooks.

Parent/Community Involvement

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will:

  • Build and sustain positive relationships with families, caregivers and community partners.
  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of parent meetings.
  • Promote school activities in the community and seek to establish partnerships and positive working relationships with community organizations.

Communication

In collaboration with the principal, the assistant principal will:

  • Model principles of self-awareness, reflective practice, transparency, and ethical behavior.
  • Maintain open channels of communication with students, parents, support staff, teachers, and other administrators in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Understand and promote district policies to employees, parents, and community.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with administration.
  • Operate as part of the district administration team by supporting district initiatives.
