How You will Make an Impact

Under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor, responsible for the operation of a combined cycle plant (4 combustion turbine on 1 steam turbine) in a responsible, safe, and environmentally friendly manner to maximize generation, while maintaining steam generation responsibilities of the Channelview Cogeneration Plant. The primary responsibility of this job is to conduct plant operator functions safely, reliably, efficiently and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures of the plant.

Duties Include:

1. Oversees the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment.

2. Understands and executes the equipment clearance (LOTO) procedure, as well as Job Safety Analysis/Work Authorization/Confined Space/Hot Work Permits.

3. Operation of DCS and PLC systems (Siemens T3000, Ovation, and Allen Bradley).

4. Properly operates HRSG, steam turbine, gas turbines, plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency operation.

5. Performs water analysis of HRSG water and makes necessary adjustments to chemical feed to maintain water quality to within desired specifications.

6. Aligns plant equipment; makes necessary adjustments to plant systems/equipment as directed by Control Room Operator.

7. Operates various manual valves throughout the plant site.

8. Takes direction from the Control Room Operator or Head Operator.

9. Assists others in performance testing of equipment/systems.

10. Assists in on-the-job training of other Operators.

11. Troubleshoots plant equipment to resolve operational problems.

12. Generates and reviews Work Requests for execution of equipment repair.

13. Operates various computer systems (DCS/PLC) to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data.

14. Able to complete site specific Plant Operator Quals within 6 months of hire date, and able to complete Head Operator Quals within 2 year after Plant Operator quals completion.

15. Monitors and records data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures.

16. Implements Plant Emergency Procedures as needed.

17. Operates electric generating units to control flow and processing of electrical energy.

18. Works in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 150 feet.

19. Works in all temperatures and climatic conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.

20. Able to work at heights (top of HRSG, equipment structure, cooling tower, etc).

21. Monitor off-loading of Aqueous Ammonia and other bulk chemicals at the site.

22. Interprets meter and gauge readings of various pieces of equipment/systems.

23. Completes appropriate rounds readings, equipment PMs and other inspection documentation.

24. Assists maintenance personnel in performance of maintenance activities to include use of tools, equipment and Company vehicles.

25. Follows safety/environmental rules and regulations. Implements safe work practices and immediately identifies hazards and recommends and/or implement repairs.

26. Trains others to gain knowledge as required. Provides training of new hires, as needed. Receives training to further knowledge, prepare for advancement and maintain safety awareness.

27. Assists in the investigation of plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events; provides input and recommendations for reports and follow-up plans.

28. Writes, reviews and revises operations and related procedures.

29. Provides hands-on troubleshooting of equipment/systems and provides/performs corrective action. Performs failure analysis to determine the cause of equipment/system malfunction.

30. Completes all training/qualifications required to be a Plant Operator.

31. Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts (shift work) and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week. Available to work overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off and beyond regular work schedule and to perform shift work, including holidays, nights, and weekends, when required.

32. Attends to housekeeping at the end of each job/task. Responsible for maintaining the plant (ex: personal desk, department, and plant areas) in a clean and neat manner.

33. Performs job safety analysis, as well as other tasks assigned.

34. Follows all safety/environmental policies, procedures, rules and participates in training. Promotes the Company’s HSE vision through actions and conduct. Participates in plant safety initiatives/programs.

What you will bring:

1. Five years of experience as a plant operator in a power plant environment (Combined Cycle Combustion Turbine environment preferred).

2. Knowledge of HRSG’s, Combustion Turbines, Generators, Transformers, Switchgear and Systems, Instruments, Controls, and Relaying equipment

3. Ability to read, write and speak in the English language and perform basic mathematical computations to perform flow, pressure, and meter calculations.

4. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

5. Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques.

6. Ability to read and understand P&IDs, schematic diagrams, electrical & mechanical drawing, and procedures & technical manuals.

7. Thorough knowledge and understanding of power plant operations, systems, and equipment.

8. Ability to analyze and interpret data to make sound recommendations on plant components.

9. Use trouble-shooting skills to solve problems.

10. Use hand tools, power tools and equipment.

11. Directs activities of others and provides job instructions.

12. Applies knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision making and work tasks.

13. Good communication skills both verbal and written. Communicates conditions of plant system and equipment to others.

14. Proficient use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office programs and ability to complete operational spreadsheets and print or email as needed.

15. Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems.

16. Discerns and responds to verbal and auditory signals from control panel (DCS, CEMs, PLC systems).

17. Works without supervision while carrying out duties.

18. Takes, records, and analyzes readings of various electrical and mechanical meters.

19. Possesses the knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation.

20. Meets physical requirements of the job such as performing tasks while standing, walking, climbing, walking on uneven surfaces, and squatting. Works with extended reach above head and in front of body and lifts 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 10 feet.

21. Possesses the ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment and maintain operating licenses and certifications. TDL required.

22. Ability to work at various heights from aerial lifts, ladders, and scaffolding, and in areas of high noise and temperature extremes.

23. Demonstrated ability to perform troubleshooting, instrument calibration, and programming electrical equipment.

24. Ability to work scheduled hours, overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off, and beyond regular work schedule. Ability to perform shift work, including holidays, nights, and weekends, when required.

25. Ability to deal with outside contractors and vendors.
