SIEDA Community Action is Hiring a Head Start Education and Training Coordinator Near Ottumwa, IA

Sieda is currently accepting applications for a full-time (40 hrs/wk) Disabilities Services Coordinator for the Sieda Community Action Head Start Preschool program.

SUMMARY:
Has primary responsibility for coordination, design, and implementation of Education and Training in the Head Start program.

ADDITIONAL TRAINING:
Must complete required training hours annually, per Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Care Center regulations & Head Start Performance Standards.

Must complete and maintain valid CLASS certification for the duration of employment.
All staff are considered mandatory reporters of child abuse and required to hold a valid training certificate.
All staff coming in contact with children are required to have up to date training in CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions.
Participates in pre-service, in-service/other trainings, AEA staffing, staff meetings, and committee work as required.
Seeks out professional development through education, role modeling, mentoring, and by utilizing available resources and training opportunities.

OTHER:
Head Start employees must pass a Pre-Employment state criminal record check, then successfully pass a state criminal record check every 2 years while employed in the Child Development unit.
Head Start employees must pass a federal criminal record check with-in 6 weeks of employment, then successfully pass a federal criminal record check every 4 years while employed in the Head Start Program.
Travel is required both in and outside the service area. Proof of auto insurance and valid driving license is required.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill, and/or ability required to be considered for this position.

FORMAL EDUCATION:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education and early childhood teaching experience.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of two years previous experience in Preschool or Child Care setting.
Experience in securing and individualizing needed services for children with disabilities.

TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY:
Requires moderate-level computer knowledge and experience, has the ability to use existing program software applications with minimal training and can perform simple maintenance to keep computers operational.
Must perform simple maintenance to keep computers operational.

JOB TITLE: Head Start Education and Training Coordinator

UNIT: Child Development
REPORTS TO: Child Development Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY:
Has primary responsibility for coordination, design, and implementation of Education and Training services in the Head Start program.
DUTIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs complex duties requiring advanced skills as follows:
Adhere to all agency and program policies and procedures.
Comprehend and follow all applicable state licensing regulations, Sieda and Child Development Policies and Procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards to assure compliance.
Develop and maintain positive and supportive relationships with all Head Start, agency, and partnership staff.
Collaborate to ensure completion of screening services required by the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Develop, maintain and revise Education and Training service delivery plans as necessary.
Support Center Supervisors in monitoring all early education services.
In the absence of other service area coordinators, ensure continuity of Head Start program services and compliance with all applicable state, local, and federal regulations.
Assist Child Development Director in collecting information for the Head Start funding and outcome reports.
Submit written reports as required.
Attend parent group meetings as requested.
Assist with the on-boarding of new Child Development staff.
Assist with planning in-services and facilitates training related to service delivery areas.
Serve as a substitute in Head Start classrooms when staff are absent.
Education Coordinator Duties:
Observe and mentor teaching staff during class days, a minimum of once per quarter and more often if needed, to assist with curriculum implementation.
Use the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) as a classroom observation instrument, two times per year. Meets with teachers to give feedback and set goals for improvement to the learning environment.
Oversee and implement all aspects Child Outcome Improvement Plan.
Assist Center Supervisors and staff to identify and prioritize materials as related to curriculum and goals of Head Start.
Adhere to the research-based, Practice Based Coaching strategy through the consist implementation of the program’s coaching plan for education staff.
Collaborate with appropriate management staff in assessing staff to identify strengths and areas needing support, and which staff with benefit most from intensive coaching.
Provide intensive coaching opportunities for the staff identified through the assessment process that will align with the program’s school readiness goals, curricula, and other approaches to professional development.
Develop and monitor individualized Professional Developments Plans for Child Development staff.
Coordinate and integrate individualized education services to children.
Training Coordinator Duties:
Provide support and applicable resources to Child Development staff.
May be directed to consult with parents and other community partners in relation to specific children within the program.
Issue certificates of completion after training is completed. Maintains documentation of completed trainings.
Ensure classroom staff obtain and maintain Preschool CDA certification within required timeframe.
Assist Child Development Director in identifying training needs and potential resources.
Meet with parent(s) individually as needed/desired to discuss child's development, provide guidance, etc.

INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Receives minimal supervision regarding task guidelines and completion

DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:
Limited independent decision-making authority.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Provides direction/training with minimal accountability for select program personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Head Start employees must pass a Pre-Employment Physical and TB Screen, then successfully pass a physical exam and TB screen every 3 years while employed in the Head Start Program.
