Job Summary

The Manufacturing Planner/Scheduler coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to production schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; conferring with department supervisors to determine progress of work and completion dates; and compiling reports on progress of work, inventory levels, costs, and production problems. Provides timely planning and scheduling of manufacturing work orders to the manufacturing floor in order to achieve both internal goals and customer delivery dates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare production schedules for the efficient operation of machines.
  • Create a master schedule based on lead time of each operation and outside processing to meet completion dates according to customers purchase order due dates or internal date requirements.
  • Arranges orders into a sequential work schedule.
  • Work with Engineering to distribute production schedules or work orders to departments.
  • Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material variances, backlogs, or other interruptions, collaborating with management, marketing, sales, production, or engineering.
  • Review documents, such as production schedules, work orders, and staffing tables, to determine personnel and/or materials requirements and related prioritization.
  • Arrange for delivery, assembly, or distribution of supplies or parts to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules.
  • Confer with shop personnel, vendors, or customers to coordinate production or shipping activities and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays.
  • Confer with department supervisors or other personnel to assess progress and discuss needed changes.
  • Plan production commitments or timetables for all jobs.
  • Compile information, such as production rates and progress, materials inventories, materials used, or customer information, so that status reports can be completed.
  • Examine documents, materials, or products and monitor work processes to assess completeness, accuracy, and conformance to standards and specifications.
  • Compile and prepare documentation related to production sequences, transportation, personnel schedules, or purchase, maintenance, or repair orders.
  • Contact suppliers to verify shipment details.
  • Record production data, including volume produced, consumption of raw materials, or quality control measures.
  • Provide input towards product construction directions and locations and information on required tools, materials, equipment, numbers of workers needed, and cost projections.
  • Maintain files, such as maintenance records, bills of lading, or cost reports.
  • Provide documentation and information to account for delays, difficulties, or changes to cost estimates.
  • Review open sales orders to determine customer requirements.
  • Work with Engineering to release manufacturing work orders to the warehouse for kit picking. 
  • Notify Customer of any schedule impacts 
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required; AA Degree preferred
  • One to three (1-3) years’ experience in Planning / Scheduling required. Machine shop experience is a plus.

  • Microsoft Office – Outlook and Excel 
  • Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates — Providing information to supervisors, and co-workers in written form/e-mail. 
  • Getting Information — Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources. 

 Physical Requirements 

  • Stationary Work – occasionally exerting up to 10 pounds of force to transport objects, remaining mostly stationary, sometimes requiring moving about the work center on concrete surfaces
  • Computer Work – daily use of laptop, computer monitor screen, keyboard, and mouse, sometimes utilizing a headset with microphone & speakers. 

Travel Requirement

Able to travel <10% of the time.

Shift/Schedule
 This position is for the day shift generally working 8:00am – 5:00pm.
