Today, Side by Side operates in four counties – Marin, Alameda, Sonoma, and Napa – across the Bay Area, reaching nearly 2,500 children, young adults, and family members per year with much-needed services related to behavioral and mental health, early intervention in schools, LGBTQIA support, transitional housing for foster youth, and special education.

COMPENSATION

This position is full-time at 40 hours/week with an hourly rate of $27.00 to $30.00 per hour gross.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Worker’s general duties consist of maintaining the San Anselmo Campus buildings and grounds in a high degree of cleanliness and in good functional condition.

DUTIES/RESPONSABILITIES/EXPECTATIONS

  • Routine repairs consisting of repairs to furniture, doors, locks, windows, screens, tiles, interior/ exterior walls and trim; repairs to plumbing fixtures, water leaks, valves, sump/recycle pumps, clogged toilets / drains, and garbage disposals; repairs to light fixtures, switches, receptacles, sensors, timers and some appliance repair such as vacuums, washers, dryers, dishwashers, etc.
  • Routine Grounds work consisting of picking up trash from around grounds and cottages, repairs to irrigation system, clearing ditches and storm drains, doing some pest control, maintaining the baseball field and children’s playground, making sure lawns/ bushes are trimmed/mowed and premises look in good condition and appearance. Maintaining all ground keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, chain saws, leaf blowers, etc.
  • Routine pool maintenance consisting of daily checking of chemical balance, weekly inspection/ cleaning/vacuuming, bi-weekly filter backwashing, tile and deck cleaning, making sure safety equipment and signage are in order and in good condition.
  • Other repairs and maintenance consisting of: furnace filters washed or replaced, blowers lubricated, exhaust fans serviced, water temperature checked, fire extinguishers inspected monthly, fire alarm and pull stations reset, interior and exterior painting, gutters and downspouts cleaned and repaired, buildings pressure washed as needed, GFI outlets tested, repairs to driveways/pathways, minor repairs to roofs, trips to the dump for debris disposal, and special interior and exterior projects as needed.
  • Set up and put away tables and chairs for special meetings and various events; moving of furniture, file boxes, computers, etc; Pick-up and delivery of donations as requested. Occasional Janitorial relief work if necessary. 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have demonstrated skills and knowledge in the areas of building and grounds maintenance and the use of necessary tools and equipment.
  • Must be stable, mature, service-oriented, and able to relate well with staff and children.
  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Must be flexible in accomplishing tasks as required and have the ability to work unsupervised. 
  • Must be organized and able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Must have experience in safe work practices, including PPE and the understanding of material safety data sheets. (SDS) 
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License and be insurable on agency insurance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high places and outside in all weather conditions. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Must be able to use all mechanical maintenance equipment and supplies safely.
  • Standing for extended periods of time.
  • Walking, sitting, twisting and bending for brief periods of time.
  • Occasional reaching and/or grasping using hands and/or arms.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • May be required to ascend/descend stairs or ladders.
  • Visual ability to read documents and computer monitor.
  • Exposure to sharp tools, characteristic of a construction environment.
  • Ability to drive.

AGENCY EXPECTATIONS

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures administratively as well as related to the care of our clients.
  • Administer duties as defined by the agency performance review plan within the required deadlines.
  • Attend required meetings and complete training courses as assigned.
  • Follow agency policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality related to client, staff and other school information.
