Samaritan Health Services has an opportunity for a Family Medicine Residency Program Director

Samaritan Health Services, a non-profit integrated health care delivery system, is seeking a Family Medicine Residency Program Director to join our rural track program in Newport, Oregon.

Academic Position Details

  • 0.3 FTE spent in resident oversight and teaching, 0.4 FTE spent on administrative tasks for the residency program, and 0.3 FTE spent in direct patient care of a patient panel.
  • Periodically evaluate and attest to residency program compliance with accreditation standards under the ACGME. Collaborate with the Associate Program Director to ensure and maintain such standards.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to residency program coordinators.
  • Develop rotations to meet educational goals of continuous accreditation and ensure resident competency for board eligibility.
  • Coordinate, collaborate, and communicate effectively with the Samaritan DIO, Department of Graduate Medical Education, and other residency program directors regarding program operations and the academic environment.
  • Work collaboratively with community preceptors, adjunct faculty, and specialists within the regional medical system.
  • Participate in all program related committee meetings, faculty development programs and administrative executive committees, in person or virtually.
  • Occupy a voting member position on the Graduate Medical Education Committee.
  • Provide oversight and input into residency program recruitment processes including participation in application review and program interviews.
  • Ensure proper implementation of curriculum, didactics, scholarly activity, and ongoing academic performance improvement projects by faculty and residents.
  • Promote and participate in faculty development.
  • Conduct resident semi-annual reviews, develop performance improvement plans when needed, implement any relevant disciplinary interventions on behalf of the residency program.
  • Provide administrative oversight for all feedback and evaluative processes within the residency program.

Clinical Position Details

  • Average of 10 hours per week dedicated to direct patient care with 30-minute appointments.
  • Opportunity to work inpatient hospitalist shifts.
  • Well-established team of full-time clinicians.
  • EPIC Electronic Medical Record.
  • Telephone call only, with nurse triage.

Position Requirements

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Family Medicine.
  • Hold 5 years of experience working with residents and medical students in a leadership or administrative role.
  • Excellent clinical skills and communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to providing evidence-based care that is team oriented.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.

The rural track of our residency program is located within the Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. Our hospital is a recently constructed 25-bed critical access hospital located in the coastal community of Newport, Oregon and serves the residents and tourists of Depoe Bay, Newport, Toledo, Waldport, and Yachats.

Newport, Oregon has historic character, is surrounded by scenic beauty, and has a sense of community not found in urban settings. This coastal community is less than two hours from urban centers, you’ll get away from a hard commute and have incredible access to the outdoor recreation found at the Oregon Coast. Whatever outdoor recreation you enjoy, it can easily be done here – beachcombing, hiking, kayaking, bike riding, surfing, year-round outdoor running, and golfing, just to name a few.
