Diagnostic procedures areperformed in chemistry, microbiology, hemostasis, hematology, blood banking, urinalysis and venipuncture as needed.Performs phlebotomy on patients/employees as needed. Follows proper procedure for preparing patient, verifying identityof patient, obtaining specimen, correctly filling out requisition. Follows established procedures for laboratory quality controland documents corrective action on QC failures. Performs daily, monthly, and as needed maintenance on equipment anddocuments accordingly. Is knowledgeable on correct procedure for specimen collection/rejection. Performs calibration ofequipment as required. Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according toestablished laboratory protocol and procedures.Reports test results in a timely manner per policy/procedure. Reports results for stats, abnormals, critical values, and othercategories of special requests as defined by laboratory policy.Ensures test requisitions are filled out correctly. Is proficient in hematology, hemostasis, urinalysis, microbiology,chemistry, serology and blood banking. Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens whenproblems occur. Notifies Manager if unable to resolve the issue. Documents action taken. Complies with establishedlaboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. Promotes effective working relations andworks effectively as part of a department team, inter and intra-departmentally, to facilitate the department's ability to meetits goals and objectives. Maintains work area - cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies manager of low inventory.Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or a related field of laboratory science (biological, chemical orphysical) from an accredited college or university.Experience: One to two years related experience and/or training in a general clinical laboratory setting preferred.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: MT (ASCP) or equivalent
