Posted: May 2, 2024 Closed: May 23, 2024Position: District ProgramBegins with 2024-2025 school year.Elementary Therapeutic Program Special Education TeacherShrewsbury Public Schools is looking for a full-time, qualified Special Education Teacher to join this district Elementary Therapeutic Program located at Major Howard W. Beal School . The program provides services and support to elementary school students who face social, emotional, behavioral, and/or academic challenges. The students require support throughout the day and may spend some time in the general education setting. The program team consists of the Special Education Teacher, School Adjustment Counselor, related service providers, and paraeducators. Strong leadership, organizational, collaborative, and growth mindset skills are essential for this position.The special education teacher will collaborate with the grade-level general and special education teachers, modify curriculum, supervise para-educators, and provide academic planning and instruction as needed to facilitate meaningful inclusion across settings.This position will collaborate daily with the program’s School Adjustment Counselor to develop individualized programming to meet each student’s needs. The special education teacher will provide direct instruction and support with academics, social skills, self-regulation strategies, executive function, and developing, implementing, and monitoring social and positive behavioral supports.Highly qualified candidates possess the following:•Strong positive, effective written and oral communication skills•Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships with students and families, paraeducators, teachers, service providers, administration, educational team leaders, and outside agencies. •Collaborate as a member of a professional learning community and a multi-disciplinary team.•Strong case management and home-school communication skills.•Highly effective executive function skills including being well organized, strong time management skills, and able to work independently to meet timelines. •Ability to multitask, show flexibility, and work within a fast-paced environment.•Well-developed skills to supervise and work collaboratively with paraeducator staff.•Experience with mild/moderate and atypical learning profiles.•Experience with completing all aspects of the IEP process including assessment, implementation, monitoring, and development.•Experience with providing specialized instruction to meet students’ academic needs.•Experience with a diverse population of students within a multicultural school community.•Experience with and commitment to inclusion that benefits students socially, emotionally, and academically•Strong skills in de-escalation and crisis management. •Trained, or willing to be trained in Safety Care.•Ability to support students within the general education classroom.Preferred:•Actively demonstrates the values of Shrewsbury Public Schools: respect for others, responsibility, collaboration, communication, commitment to high standards and expectations, and equity.•Experience in special education settings and/or applied behavior analysis.•Works flexibly in the changing school environment.•Highly qualified candidates who are Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) are desirable but not required.•Possesses Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure in Moderate Disabilities, level K-8 or 5-12, or Severe Disabilities, All levels.Physical and Environmental Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
