Health Educator Wanted

Shores of Hope is a non-profit organization in West Sacramento that is dedicated to making our community a better place. Our mission is to cultivate independence in each individual who is looking for the support they need. We offer several agency programs, which include Transitional Housing, Community Outreach, Child Development, and Transportation.

Shores of Hope is seeking a compassionate and responsible individual with strong leadership skills and a passion to work with at risk youth. Candidate will lead youth classes for youth 13-19 years old. Using good interpersonal skills and with a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population, our health educator will work closely with clients to teach them the importance of building healthy relationships. Successful candidates must possess the knowledge and experience in addressing teen dating boundaries and health education.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Contact youth, parents, guardians and organizations via phone, letter or email to schedule class attendance
  • Facilitate evidence-based program activities using approved curriculum
  • Conduct community presentations, outreach and education
  • Conduct screening and risk assessment for program participants
  • Make referrals as appropriate to health services and other supportive services
  • Plan, organize, and motivate youth to attend events
  • Recruit youth (ages 13 to 19) via virtual meetings and face-to-face conversation in order to inspire, motivate and invite them to participate in the program
  • Outreach to local organization and partner agencies in order to expand places we can provide classes
  • Administer pre/post questionnaire at baseline and completion of the program
  • Conduct and implement evidence-based program with fidelity
  • Develop, prepare, and present program information, including awareness for the program, evaluation findings, etc. to community stakeholder
  • Review and enhance evidence-based program, maintaining fidelity to design
  • Develop, foster, and maintain ongoing relationships with community-based organizations
  • Participate in all required meetings, trainings, workshops, and events as assigned
  • Collect data, analyze data, and prepare reports and participate in evaluation activities

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfortable working with large and small groups of youth including foster and probation youth
  • Self-motivated and disciplined in an independent working setting and within a team environment
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and changing environment
  • Ability to keep a high standard of confidentiality
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Essential Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience with at-risk youth
  • Experience in conducting presentations, delivering an evidence-based
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to work with youth
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, dependable transportation with auto insurance
  • Ability to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Statement and obtain Criminal Justice Clearance
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis

Pay Frequency:

  • Bi weekly or Twice monthly

Work Remotely

  • Temporarily due to COVID-19

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
