About ShoreCorps/AmeriCorps:

ShoreCorps is a State AmeriCorps program, funded in part by the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism. AmeriCorps is a civil society program supported by the U.S. federal government, foundations, corporations, and other donors engaging adults in public service work with a goal of "helping others and meeting critical needs in the community." Members commit to full-time or part-time positions offered by a network of nonprofit community organizations and public agencies, to fulfill assignments in the fields of education, public safety, health care, and environmental protection. The program is often seen as a domestic Peace Corps. It employs more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year.

Position Description:

Lower Shore Land Trust (LSLT) is a nationally accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit, serving Somerset, Wicomico & Worcester Counties. Formed in 1990, LSLT works with landowners and other partners who wish to protect and restore the natural heritage of their properties, so that the character of the land and the quality of life it nourishes remain intact for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations.

LSLT is seeking two (2) Full-Time AmeriCorps members for the 2024-2025 service year in the position of Land Program Assistant.

These positions will serve an important support role to our Land Program staff and provide excellent opportunities for the members to gain experience in restoration, conservation, volunteer management, environmental education, and other non-profit functions. The Lower Shore Land Trust also regularly partners with local government and NGO’s, offering the opportunity for members to expand their professional network.

Additionally, LSLT plans to add at least one full-time permanent position to our staff within the next 12 months, so opportunities for future employment with benefits at LSLT exist for the right candidates.

Member Responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with Conservation Projects: Collaborate with the conservation team to support various land conservation projects, including land acquisition, easement recording, and property assessments.
  • Stewardship and Restoration Activities: Participate in stewardship and restoration activities, such as monitoring of LSLT easements, invasive species management, habitat restoration, and landowner assistance.
  • Outreach and Education: Assist in organizing and implementing educational and outreach events, workshops, and volunteer opportunities to engage the community in land conservation and environmental stewardship efforts.
  • Data Management and Reporting: Help maintain accurate records, databases, and maps related to land conservation projects, stewardship activities, and volunteer engagement efforts. Assist in preparing reports for funders and stakeholders.
  • Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the conservation, stewardship, and restoration team.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in conservation, land management, and nonprofit operations.

Requirements for applicants include the following:

  • Have a strong interestin serving the community
  • Be able to relate to diverse populations
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Able to provide copy of either high school diploma, GED, or college transcript
  • Have reliabletransportation
  • Be available to attend the free, AmeriCorps class at SU alternate Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive Criminal History Check, which includes FBI fingerprinting
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident alien
  • Applicants DO NOT need to be college students, anyone from the community who fits the above requirements may participate.

The member will mostly serve during our regular office hours (9-5), however, occasional evening and weekend hours associated with projects and programs will be required.

The member will begin on or after August 15th, 2024 and must complete 1700 hours by August 14th, 2025.

This position is offered through a partnership with ShoreCorps, the AmeriCorps program at Salisbury University. It is contingent upon federal funding and approval of the AmeriCorps office.
