Position Summary
The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the overall operation of SMC Pharmacy department and drug utilization throughout the facility in accordance with state and federal regulatory requirements and evidenced-based medicine. The Director also ensures compliance with patient quality standards and Performance Improvement programs.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Is responsible for the maintenance of the pharmacy inventory according to departmental policy and practice.
• Supervises and checks the work of pharmacy technicians /pharmacy students.
• Ensures patient care meds are met within department policy and procedure guidelines.
• Documentation is clear, legible, accurate and in accordance with department policy and procedure guidelines.
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility for department related to patient charges and inventory management.
• Effectively communicates recommendations, clinical interventions with physicians, healthcare professionals and pharmacy staff.
• Demonstrates knowledge of departmental and hospital information systems.
• Provides for the education of physicians, health care team members, patients and others to impart accurate drug information for optimal patient care.
• Completes required competency assessment and provides competency training within required regulatory guidelines.
• Demonstrates knowledge of professional standards/practices.
• Controls and secures the distribution of scheduled and investigational drugs with appropriate documentation as required by state and federal regulations and departmental policies.
• Documents pharmaceutical care activities such as ADR’s, interventions and drug information in appropriate records according to institutional and departmental policy and procedures.
• Ensures personal and staff proficiency in use of technology; keeps skills up to date.

Qualifications 

• Active New Jersey Pharmacist License
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Pharm.D preferred
• 5 years of Pharmacist experience in a hospital setting
• 5 years management experience
• Strong Organizational/Interpersonal/Communication Skills
