Sholom Community Alliance is Hiring a Trained Medication Assistant Near Saint Louis, MN

SUMMARY

The Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) provides direct care to residents to maintain their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being through medication administration and quality, personal care as delegated by the nurse.

Shift: 6:30am-2:30pm

Hours: 0.9 AM FTE

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform nursing care responsibilities, assisting residents with all nursing cares in accordance with care plans. *
  • Act as an advocate to maintain client privacy and dignity during cares. *
  • Deliver routine oral medications in a timely and accurate manner as directed by a licensed nurse, communicating medication refusals and adverse reactions promptly to the Nurse. *
  • Communicate any identified changes involving resident promptly to the Nurse. *
  • Maintain efficient practices when responding to client needs, maintaining cleanliness of facility, and ensuring equipment upkeep. *
  • Assist Nutritional Services staff with serving of meals and enhancing the mealtime experience. *
  • Provide assistance and respond to phone and in-person requests for information as delegated by the nurse. *
    • Maintain and complete all required documentation and charting on the computer or on forms in an accurate and timely manner according to policies and procedures. *
  • Initial Medication Administration Record (MAR) after medication is administered per facility policy and procedure, accurately documenting refusals for medication on back of MAR. *
    • Accurately document on appropriate forms related to each resident; details of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), elimination patterns, vital signs and weights, resident intake and output, turning and repositioning and challenging behaviors. *
  • Maintain general cleanliness and safety of facility and client rooms, providing assistance and follow-up when incidents occur. *
    • Continually seek opportunities to meet residents’ social and psychosocial needs through planned and spontaneous activities, engaging residents in meaningful conversations and facilitating activities as instructed. *
    • Float to NAR position as business needs require. *
    • Support various other Nursing responsibilities as needed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Experience and Credentials

  • Current certification through Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry required.
  • Certificate from State-approved program in Medication Delivery required.
  • Current CPR certification preferred..
  • Experience in the long-term care setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Flexible and productive in an environment with regular interruptions.
  • Display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization.
  • Possess effective problem solving skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including nursing facility software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and other applications. Must be skilled in database management and record keeping.
  • Able to display high levels of customer service, responding promptly and thoroughly to the inquiries and needs of individuals both internal and external to the organization in accordance with our PROUD standards.
  • Able to understand and follow facility and department safety and emergency procedures.
  • Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization and client information in accordance to HIPAA regulations and corporate compliance standards, including appropriate access of data housed within the Information Technology infrastructure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

Incumbent must be able to:

  • Perform heavy work, lifting up to 50 pounds, and frequently lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds as needed.
  • Push/pull residents in wheelchairs up to 200 pounds a distance of several feet as needed
  • Effectively communicate in the English language, verbally and in writing; including following instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
  • Able to effectively use office equipment to review and create information.
  • Work at a desk for extended periods of time and perform hours of work at a computer.
  • Frequently stand and walk to move around office/building repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime, nights and weekends as required including attending events/meetings as needed.
  • Able to obtain reliable transportation

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Use thermometer, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, wheelchair, patient lifts, and related medical equipment.
  • Use telephone, computer and standard office equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is indoors. The incumbent must be flexible about switching positions quickly in order to respond to the needs of residents, in responding to emergencies. May be at risk of exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material.
