Job Summary

Teacher is reponsible for creating a classroom environment that develops each students skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to effective communication and literate citizenship; that develops appreciation of literature or all types; that motivates students to read widely for information and recreation; that places a strong emphasis on developing necessary writing skills; and develops special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to meet the NC State Standards. 

Essential Duties

1. Teach content and skills in English language, literature, compostion, and reading to middle school students. 

2. Use the Core Knowledge Sequence as well as the NC State Standards to develop lessons.

3. Adapt material and methods to meet the needs of students

4. Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, keep appropriate records as necessary. 

5. Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas

6. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. 

7. Identifies students needs and cooperates with other staff members in assessing and helping students.

8. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. 

Eligibility Requirements

Bachelors degree required

Middle Grades ELA cerification preferred 

Ability and willingess to obtain middle grades ELA certification required
