POSITION SUMMARY:
The individual in this dynamic, team-oriented position is responsible for enhancing the Shimadzu Physical Measurements image by providing real world applications solutions and expert-level technical support. This Applications Scientist position requires exceptional communication and coordination skills, working closely with the customers, product managers, marketing and sales persons to drive sales and marketing opportunities. He/she must have hands-on experience with Physical Measurements analytical instruments to provide applications development, sample analysis, training and demonstration. Also expected to prepare and present scientific material in support of marketing and sales at seminars and scientific conferences. This position focuses more on the end user applications and problem solving, incorporating any of Shimadzu Physical Measurements product line.
This position is to provide application solutions to promote the marketing and sales of Physical Measurements products in the broad field for qualitative and quantitative purposes.

SCOPE:
This position's primary focus is to enhance Shimadzu sales and applications materials by running customer samples, performing product demonstrations and by providing technical expertise and applications development to our customers, collaborators, sales force and service personnel to ensure that Shimadzu meets or exceeds its goal and objectives. This person must be the expert in all facets of application fields using Physical Measurements products.

PROBLEM SOLVING REQUIREMENTS:
The individual in this position is required to solve complex problems within limited time frame with technical proficiency, scientific creativity and independent line of thought. The position requires extensive troubleshooting and isolation of variables in a methodical and efficient manner to solve customers and regional problems. The ability to work with a diverse group while allocating limited resources effectively.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The individual in this key applications position must have comprehensive expertise and hands-on experience in Physical Measurements and/or Biotech product applications. The individual must also have a thorough understanding of modern mass spectrometry and chromatography. He/she has to demonstrate a proven record of being a fast learner, excellent communicator and thoughtful team builder.
Incumbent must have at least a Bachelor’s degree with a Ph.D. or MS degree in Chemistry or closely related field, highly preferred. Must have at least 2-3 years’ experience. Marketing and business experience within a manufacturing or distribution business in chromatography and mass spectrometry a plus.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires frequent lifting or with other means for movement of instrumentation and parts. May include frequent bending, stooping, squatting, standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time and pulling/pushing of parts can also be expected. Incumbent must be able to lift up to 20 pounds routinely throughout the day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
SAFETY/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Position is required to maintain proper housekeeping and safety standards. Proper use of personal protective equipment and safety devices are required as stated by the Corporate Safety Document policies and procedures
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is based in an office/lab area that requires regular and predictable attendance. It will involve working alone on projects and collaborating as part of team. Incumbent may work at different workstations during the day and travel to regional locations/customers in order to support the product line and SSI Customer needs. Extra hours may periodically be required, in order to fulfill the functions required by this position. The position will include contact with all SSI employees and requires prompt and friendly handling of all related inquires. The position will include contact with customers and requires prompt and professional handling in all related matters.
