CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

-Ergonomics Project Management

  • Coordinates the ergonomic program for the Company. Ensures ergonomics programs are developed, implemented, and improved for Company operations and/or sites.
  • Tracks and trends ergonomic incident data for the Company and drives risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Leads cross-functional team projects to develop and drive risk reduction / engineering solutions for new and existing processes.
  • Provides ergonomics subject matter expertise, including supporting in the design and implementation of ergonomically-sound processes.
  • Manages the Company’s ergonomics written standard, training, and tools (risk assessments and solutions page), reviews and updates the materials annually, and manages the customer-facing SharePoint pages and data systems for all ergonomics resources.
  •  Conducts ergonomics risk assessments / physical demands analysis for operations, which may include office, retail, manufacturing, distribution, and R&D laboratories and act as an advisor to various internal customers

-Ensures valid assessments (process / workplace / worker) and analysis and Manages data

-Evaluates assessment results, communicates the results and control recommendations

-Provides guidance and insight relating to implementation of recommendations.

  • Trains personnel in ergonomic program elements such as risk assessment techniques and related tools, control applications, and evaluation of control effectiveness. This training includes in-person workshops and instructions, as well as prepared training for train-the-trainer purposes.
  • Will lead on-site visits for the purposes of risk assessments, ergonomics problem solving, and supporting sites in determining in-house solutions such as workstation design / re-design and external solutions for known high risk workstations or activities.
  • Participates periodically in case management and wellness review meetings with Occupational Medicine.
  • Co-leads the Headquarters office ergonomics program.
  • Drives innovation and continuous improvement through analysis of current/emerging technologies.
  • Supports the industrial hygiene/occupational health program for assigned sites. Conducts exposure assessments and health risk analysis.
  • Ensures valid sampling and analysis
  • Evaluates assessment results, communicates results and recommendations
  • Provides guidance and insight relating to implementation of recommendations.
  • Participates in industrial hygiene risk-reduction projects, from moderate to significant complexity (under limited supervision).
  • Ensures occupational and industrial hygiene programs are implemented and current for assigned sites.
  • Participates as the subject matter expert for Corporate EHS Audits and supports cohort sites during OSHA VPP audit and certification process.
  • Trains personnel in exposure monitoring techniques, ergonomics, and in industrial hygiene programs.
  • Monitors facility program implementation and regulatory compliance for assigned cohort of sites and oversee the same for direct reports

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required: 

  • B.S. in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Engineering (with focus on Ergonomics), or related technical discipline; or M.S. degree in environment health sciences, engineering, chemistry, or another core science

Preferred: 

  • M.S. degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Industrial/Chemical Engineering

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  •  8-12 years of experience of experience in ergonomics or broad-discipline industrial hygiene with demonstrated ergonomics experience, (M.S. degree equivalent to 1 year of experience; PhD degree equivalent to 2 years of experience)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE)

Preferred:

  •  12 years of experience (may be inclusive of internships)

TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Strong knowledge of Ergonomics or Industrial Hygiene and Occupational Safety practices, including: exposure risk assessment, exposure record databases, sampling and analysis, hearing conservation, ventilation and engineered controls, personal protective equipment, statistics, laboratory safety & hygiene, respiratory protection, hazard communication, heat stress, medical surveillance programs, blood borne pathogens, ergonomics, spill control and response, dermal exposures, substance specific standards, and job safety analysis
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other occupational health standards
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving, mathematical, and report writing skills
  • Work well in both a team environment and independently (with minimal supervision)
  • Be a good oral communicator and have ability to relate to customers at any level of expertise
  • Adapt well to changing priorities and be detailed orientated 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to timelines
  • Customer-focused, ability to ensure accountability while also acting as a “coach/teacher”.
