Sherman Grayson Hospital LLC dba Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center is Hiring a Registered Nurse- Cardiac Cath Lab (FT) Near Sherman, TX

JOB SUMMARY: Provides direct patient care to adult and geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with physician continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of equipment and inventory. Assesses procedure room or equipment functioning and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiovascular Laboratory team are met. Monitors physiologic and hemodynamic data, as related to diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures performed in the cardiovascular lab. Monitors and records patients condition continuously while in the Cardiovascular lab. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

  1. Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  2. Active TX or Multistate Registered Nursing (RN) License; required.
  3. Current BCLS required or must be obtained within 30 days; ACLS required or must be obtained within six months.
  4. One (1) year clinical experience in a Cardiovascular Lab doing cardiac work or in a Critical Care area preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Consistently uses two patient identifiers when drawing lab, administering medications and performing procedures.

Does not use unacceptable abbreviations in documentation and using read back on all telephone orders. Monitors authentication and validation of telephone orders within 24 hours by the physician.

Consistently follows medication reconciliation policy.

Ensures Crash Cart, defibrillation function have been checked per protocol and after each code, appropriate items are immediately replaced and indicated by signature on crash cart checklist.

Is in compliance with information contained in the Infection Manual (i.e., OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, CDC Guidelines), and demonstrates appropriate use of personal protective equipment ( i.e. gloves, gowns, masks, goggles ) and hand washing techniques.

Consistently ensures that all clinical alarms i.e. Cardiac monitor alarms are set with the appropriate parameters for the patient and are audible at all times.

Able to give thorough, detailed efficient report to receiving nurse ensure consistency in the plan of care. Uses the S-Bar communication report tool.

Assists physicians with special tests and procedures in the Cath Lab, and Stress Lab. Uses time out on all patients for procedures.

Avoids and prevents injury to self and patients by applying the principles of body mechanics. Maintains a safe environment, functioning with an awareness and application of safety issues identified within the unit/facility, i.e. suction and oxygen immediately available in all procedure rooms.

Consistent with pain assessment and reassessment with the time frame after giving pain medications and upon discharge or transfer of patients.

Consistently counts narcotics with a second nurse weekly and completes documentation of medications given to the patient on the MAR and/or the procedure event log.

Recognizes signs of abuse and reports appropriately to the Adult Protective Services.

Initiates discharge and patient / family education planning with proper documentation on the patient record.

Establishes priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources of time, equipment, personnel and supplies.

Formulates, maintains and updates a goal directed plan of care on patients which is prioritized and based on patient outcomes.

Responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts, mobilization, and shall participate as needed in patient handling.

Uses professional judgment and clinical assessment in safe patient handling that are consistent with Safe Patient Handling policies.

Attends and maintains mandatory training in safe patient handling, trained in safe lifting techniques, includes but not limited to:

1.) Appropriate use of lifting devices and equipment

2.) Five areas of body exposure: vertical, lateral, bariatric repositioning and ambulation. 3.) Use of lifting devices to handle patients safely.
