Sheppard Pratt is Hiring a Training & Technical Assistance Specialist Near Towson, MD

The Training & Technical Assistance Specialist will be expected to serve as a school-based champion to provide professional development and coaching in elementary and middle schools engaged in a federally-funded research study funded by the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities. The position is funded through August 30, 2025. The research study is being conducted in select elementary and middle schools in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools through a partnership between Sheppard Pratt, the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development. The study focuses on improving teacher and student racial equity literacy, advancing racial justice in schools, and supporting social emotional learning in the classroom. The Training and Technical Assistant Specialist will be expected to provide in-person professional development-focused training and coaching to teachers; support research team data collection efforts; participate in research team meetings throughout the school year; and provide material development, planning, and research support as needed.
Responsibilities:
Serve As Program Champion in Partnering Schools
  • Serve as the "face" of the program.
  • Champion research and intervention activities in participating schools.
  • Recruit schools and teachers into the study.
  • Independently lead the development and sustainability of school partnerships.
  • Attend school events/activities as appropriate.
  • Lead efforts for information sharing and problem-solving with school staff regarding intervention start-up, implementation, assessment, sustainability, etc.
Training and Ongoing Coaching
  • Provide annual professional development related advancing social justice literacy and social emotional learning in schools.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, modeling and technical assistance to teachers in intervention schools
  • Document program implementation fidelity
  • Participate in weekly supervision meetings
Participation in Other Research Activities
  • Provide reminders to teachers for survey completion.
  • Provide regular communication of information relevant to research study success.
  • Participate in weekly research planning meetings
Requirements:
  • Work requires in-depth knowledge of child/adolescent education principles and practices sufficient to design, evaluate, and coordinate professional development training acquired by a bachelor's degree in Education or Teaching or related field (psychology, counseling, social work). Master's degree is preferred.
  • Must possess professional competence in the areas of school-wide problem solving and behavior intervention at the individual, class, grade and school-wide levels - acquired by three years of experience working in a school environment. 5 years' experience working in schools as either a teacher or in a coaching or consultative role to teacher and prior experience creating and leading professional development trainings and/or coaching is strongly preferred
  • The successful candidate will be highly skilled in communication, critical thinking/problem-solving, organization, and time management. As part of the research, the candidate will need to be trained in human subjects' research and Good Clinical Practice and maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all work.
  • Work requires advanced interpersonal skills sufficient to garner support for program initiative, effectively train adult learners in evidence-based program and provide effective consultation to school team members.
