Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP is Hiring a Remote Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I
Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, an Am Law 50 firm, has an immediate opening for a Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I for the Firm's Support at Sheppard Department to provide coverage for the evening shift. This position can be based in the Dallas, Houston, Chicago, or Washington DC office. This position will accommodate the schedule of 6:00 PM to 2:30 AM (Central Time). There is only one opening.
This position has a remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office on an as needed basis.
The Litigation Secretary/Practice Specialist I will be working for the Firm’s Support Services (Support at Sheppard). This position requires a highly motivated individual with a minimum of 6 years of experience providing litigation support. Extensive knowledge of litigation (e-filings) and trial procedures, federal, state and appellate court procedures, and federal and state court rules is required. Ideal candidate will have excellent technical, organizational and administrative skills as well as strong interpersonal relationships skills. The ideal candidate would thrive on working and interacting with all levels of firm personnel and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must have the ability to prioritize and work independently in a fast paced environment. This person should be able to work under pressure, remain flexible, be proactive, resourceful and efficient. Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects and changing priorities on a busy desk. It is essential that the Candidate can work productively in high pressure situations and remain professional at all times.
Responsibilities:
Format, input, edit, retrieve, copy, scan, and transmit legal documents
Prepare pleading documents for filing and service
Prepare discovery documents for service
eFiling – State, Federal and Appellate Courts
Create litigation binders, indexing and filing documents, organize and file case documents
Editing Contracts
Business Intakes
Utilize docketing/calendaring department to track court and filing deadlines
Attorney timesheets, expense summaries, and client bills
Assists with overflow work and other projects as assigned
Performs overflow typing, filing, or photocopying as time permits and as requested by other attorneys
Mailings
Maintain client confidence by keeping client/attorney information confidential
Type 75 wpm and have excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation
Ability to learn new skills and systems quickly
Perform additional administrative and support tasks as requested

Qualifications and Experience Required Qualifications: 6 years of litigation experience in a law firm. Preferred Qualifications: California litigation experience preferred.
Education Required: Some college courses completed Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree
License and Certification Preferred: Secretarial Certification a plus; ABA approved Paralegal Certification
Computer/Software Knowledge Required:
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, as well as document management and other office technologies.
Candidate must have the ability to learn new skills and systems quickly.
Work Environment
You will be based in one of our local Sheppard Mullin offices but will be allowed to work from home.
You are required to come into the office on an as-needed basis.
Overtime may be required as the job duties demand.
Work Schedule Monday-Friday from 6:00 PM-2:30 AM (Central Time)/7:00 PM-3:30 AM (Eastern Time).
