Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP is Hiring a Remote Communications Specialist

Overview

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 100 law firm, is seeking a Communications Specialist to join its Business Development and Marketing department.

This position can be based in any of the following offices: Chicago, Downtown Los Angeles, Washington DC, San Francisco, Century City, Orange County, Del Mar, San Diego, Silicon Valley, Dallas, or Houston. There is only one opening.

*This position has a remote/hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation to be in the office on an as needed basis.

Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for drafting submissions and nominations for legal and industry awards/rankings as well as managing the comprehensive calendar of due dates and requirements. The role will also tasked with seeking out new relevant and strategic opportunities. This position will report to the Senior Communications Manager.

Law Firm Rankings, Surveys and Individual Nominations

  • Work collaboratively with the firm’s Business Development and Marketing managers to collaborate on targeted, strategic submissions for practice, industry and attorney rankings, surveys and awards.
  • Manage individual attorney nominations for priority awards.

General

  • Maintain database of firm recognitions for use in various marketing materials.
  • Update and maintain the firm’s submission in the dedicated software, LexTrack.
  • Support internal communications through the firm's online mechanisms. This can include drafting content for the firm website, internal firm newsletter, and social media.

Essential Functions of Job:

  • Organize and maintain firm ranking database.
  • Interact with various attorneys to secure required information for awards and nominations.
  • Draft firm submissions for awards and nominations.
  • Manage editorial calendar for awards and submissions.
  • Coordinate with Business Development and Marketing team on overlapping submissions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience in a communications role at a law firm, public relations/marketing agency, or other professional services environment (e.g., private equity firm, consulting firm).
  • Creativity, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently, and as part of a team with the ability to build credibility and develop internal and external relationships.
  • Attention to detail and strong organization and planning skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Strong editing skills and familiarity with AP Style.
  • Ability to learn quickly and to perform in a fast-paced environment, meeting frequent, sometimes quick turnaround deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to quickly changing priorities.
  • Thorough understanding of confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in compiling legal rankings and award nominations (Chambers, Legal 500, etc.) and maintaining a thorough rankings/awards database.

Education

Required: Bachelor’s Degree

Major (if applicable): Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism

Computer/Software Knowledge

Required: Strong computer skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Suite.Preferred: Knowledge of Zoom, OneDrive and LexTrack is a plus.

Work Environment

A fun, fast-paced environment. Overtime may be required as job duties demand.
