Job Title: Wellness Coach (Respite & Renewal)
Position Status: Permanent, Full-Time (Non-Exempt)
Staff Supervisor: Guest Services Manager
Job Overview: The Wellness Coach is the primary staff serving the shelter guests who need our “Respite” (physical health) and “Renew” (mental health) services as they prepare to join our case management to housing program (Shelter Launch) or our long-term discipleship and recovery program (C-COR). In other cases, the R&R Coach provides a referral to permanent placement facilities in cases where the guest is incapable of successfully completing one of our in-house programs.
Overview of Responsibilities
· This position is also responsible for conducting basic mental health and physical health screenings and conducts some on-site programming for R&R guests. This position will hold guests accountable to medication-compliance, cooperation with partner agencies, and progress in their case plans.
· Monitoring guest progress with the case plan, holding them accountable to work toward resolution of barriers and meet the goals of the case plan.
· Teaching guests in a variety of formats. To include (but not limited to): shelter orientation, Christian discipleship, basic life skills, and Chapel services.
· Assisting with general Guest Services activities, including filling in as a Front Line Coach when needed.
· Respond to the core human needs of our guests.
· All other projects or responsibilities as needed and assigned.
Job Qualifications:
· The R&R Coachmust conform to Shelter KC “Qualifications for Employment” and support the Shelter KC “Statement of Belief” as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
· This person must be a mature, growing Christian involved in a local church.
· This person must be able to utilize the knowledge & skills necessary to provide the care appropriate to Shelter KC guests and be able to manage their caseload. This person must have the competence to gather & interpret information regarding the guests’ physical, social, emotional, and spiritual status.
· The R&R Coach must be capable of utilizing available resources within the organization and community to assist residents in fulfilling the goals of their case plans.
· Must have, or complete within the first 90 days of employment, a “Mental Health First Aid” or “Mental Health Coaching” or equivalent (or greater) certification/degree.
Job Expectations:
· Focus on planting seeds of faith in and encouraging salvation through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
· Ensure that all guests are prayed with, counseled, nurtured, and directed to resources both within and outside of Shelter KC.
· Responsible for his own professional development and spiritual growth. Shelter KC encourages, and may assist with, continuing education as time and budget allow.
· Meet with the Guest Services Manager and other staff on a regular basis to facilitate teamwork & communication, effective ministry, and to build organizational unity.
· Preferred: work schedule will include weekends, to attend to our higher-need guests when we have a lower amount of other staff on-site.
Travel Requirements: Rare, but possible for conferences and/or training events
Conduct: All employees must conform to Shelter KC’s “Qualifications for Employment” and support the Shelter KC “Statement of Belief” as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Initial 3-6 Month Short Term Goals:
1. Learn the vision and mission of SKC
2. Get to know the operation
3. Get to know the staff and their corresponding roles and responsibilities
4. Become proficient in the duties assigned
