Shelter From The Storm, Inc. is Hiring a S.A.R.T. Support Advocate Near La Grande, OR

Position Summary:

The SART Response Advocate will be responsible for working with victims presenting with recent or historical sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking or human trafficking. This might be done in an on call as needed basis in conjunction with the Union County SART team, or with our advocacy team in office for follow up care. This advocate will also assist SA victims through court processes, law enforcement response and case, and provide opportunities for a victim’s involvement in social change efforts. As well as facilitating victim access to organization resources and housing while providing community trainings and outreach. This position will report to the Programs Director.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Programs Director and the Union County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART);
  • Create and implement an outreach strategy to ensure the community and potential victims/survivors are aware of SART.
  • Attend monthly SART meetings.
  • Work with community care providers to develop protocols for responding to victims/survivors of sexual assault.
  • Inform responders of training opportunities that are available.
  • Maintain security of documents and appropriate confidentiality.
  • Coordinate qualified volunteers to provide coverage on the 24-hour Hotline and SART;
  • Collaborate with the volunteer coordinator to facilitate monthly hotline meetings, hotline trainings and the recruitment of Hotline and SART volunteers
  • Back-up Hotline volunteers and Staff by providing Shelter House/client support after hours and on weekends, as needed.
  • Maintain confidential information in compliance with Shelter From the Storm’s Confidentiality Policy;
  • Provide direct advocacy through in office services;
  • Assist victims/survivors in becoming safe and self-empowered through safety assessments and planning, referrals, information and peer support.
  • Assist victims/survivors in reporting to law enforcement and in pursuing protection orders.
  • Assist with Organization data entry, monthly reports and provide pertinent information for reports to the Executive Director;
  • Assist with entry, tracking and reporting of statistical client services data.
  • And, other duties as assigned by direct supervisors

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Social Work with emphasis of work with victims of interpersonal violence and/or combination of training and work experience;
  • 40-hour State of Oregon approved domestic violence and sexual assault services training (may be completed concurrent with work).
  • Must possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships with victim service agencies.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Office programs
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people and in crisis situations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Requires a valid Oregon Driver’s License and vehicle insurance;
  • This is an ON CALL position, must be able to travel for work, and able to respond to client needs after regular hours and on weekends to assist with crisis response and holding the hotline.

A criminal background check will be conducted for all applicants considered for employment.
