Job Overview:
The Concrete Masonry and Flatwork Crew is responsible for the construction, repair, and maintenance of concrete structures, focusing on masonry and flatwork. In addition to traditional responsibilities, this role may involve machine operation, and bilingual skills are considered a plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Masonry Work:
  • Lay and align concrete blocks or bricks to construct walls, partitions, and other structures according to blueprints and specifications.
  • Apply mortar between joints, ensuring a strong and even bond.
  • Cut and shape bricks or blocks using hand tools and power equipment as needed.
  • Flatwork Installation:
  • Prepare subgrade by leveling and compacting the soil to create a solid base for concrete placement.
  • Set up forms to contain concrete, ensuring proper alignment and dimensions.
  • Pour and finish concrete for various flatwork applications such as driveways, sidewalks, and slabs.
  • Use tools such as trowels, screeds, and bull floats to finish surfaces to the specified texture and smoothness.
  • Machine Operation:
  • Operate machinery, such as concrete mixers, concrete pumps, or other specialized equipment, to assist in the placement and finishing of concrete.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of machinery.
  • Reinforcement and Finishing:
  • Install reinforcement materials such as rebar or wire mesh to enhance the strength and durability of concrete structures.
  • Finish concrete surfaces by applying curing compounds, sealers, or waterproofing agents as required.
  • Create decorative finishes or patterns on concrete surfaces as specified in the project plans.
  • Quality Control:
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Repair or replace defective concrete as necessary.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and project managers to address any issues or modifications required during construction.
  • Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Bilingual Skills:
  • Bilingual proficiency is a plus, with the ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and potentially clients in multiple languages.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
  • Maintain and clean tools and equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in concrete masonry and flatwork construction.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and equipment related to concrete work.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Physical stamina and strength for lifting and carrying heavy materials.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and willingness to adhere to them.
  • Machine operation

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications:

  • Certification in concrete construction or masonry techniques is a plus.
