Position Summary

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.

Responsible for performing serological, bacteriological, biochemical, hematological, and microbiological laboratory examinations; which range from waived to moderate and high complexity laboratory analysis.

Pay Grade: 43
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education


Minimum Qualifications

100%

1. Licensed as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the State of Tennessee; and completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services (NAACLS) approved program for Medical Laboratory Technicians; AND

2. Associate’s degree from an accredited college, university, or technical college in medical laboratory technology.

3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Monitors and maintains proper quality controls to evaluate the effectiveness of complex laboratory instrumentation.

2. Generates accurate laboratory data that is needed to diagnose and investigate health problems and health hazards in the community.

3. Maintains legible records of manual results and accurately enters results into the computer system.

4. Keeps work surfaces clean and orderly.

5. Serves as a technical resource by participating in staff training, answering questions of other professionals, participating in education opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

6. Provides immunology test results for patient diagnosis and treatment by operating equipment such as enzyme immunoassay and serological testing.

7. Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, providers, and coworkers by following standards and procedures, and complying with legal regulations.

8. Assures patient confidentiality by abiding by HIPPA laboratory policies and regulations.

9. Serves and protects the community by adhering to professional standards, laboratory policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.

10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

1. Knowledge of effectual laboratory medicine performance principles.

2. Knowledge of the roles and functions of public health laboratories.

3. Ability to perform complex and critical laboratory duties.

4. Ability to train other personnel.

5. Ability to work in a fast-paced, professional, diverse environment with minimal direct supervision.

6. Proficient Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel and similar County computer applications.


Special Requirements

1. Must have a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one upon date of employment.

2. Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon the date of employment.

3. Must maintain certification throughout employment.
