Pay Grade: 53
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
1. Five (5) years of experience in a managerial/supervisory capacity in an emergency dispatch communication, and operations environment; AND
2. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, or a closely related field; OR
3. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
1. Responsible for assisting in the supervision, coordination, and management of all assigned personnel of the Communications Center.
2. Monitors and reviews all functions of the Communications Center as to correctness or completeness in the dispatching of patrol, appropriate personnel, ambulances, or other appropriate equipment/personnel within Sheriff’s Office established protocols, under emergency situations.
3. Prepares performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and counseling sessions.
4. Assists in establishing guidelines for the hiring of new dispatchers and supervisors; conducts applicant interviews and makes recommendations for hiring.
5. Assists in developing protocols for emergency computer-aided dispatching.
6. Reviews and monitors daily incoming emergency calls; logs and records to ensure established Sheriff’s Office procedures and protocols are followed by the dispatching staff.
7. Assists in developing and implementing 3-shift, 24-hour operational monthly work schedules for staff.
8. Assists in divisional budget and makes budget-related recommendations.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
1. Thorough knowledge of modern management techniques and the ability to apply them in directing the work of others.
2. Knowledge of department or division objectives and procedures.
3. Knowledge of the principles of personnel management and public administration.
4. Working knowledge of 800mhz radio system.
5. Working knowledge of communications equipment including video and digital audio equipment.
6. Working knowledge of basic computer technology.
7. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
8. Ability to immediately recognize liability issues.
9. Ability to effectively deal with the public, co-workers, subordinates, and outside agencies with courtesy and tact.
10. Ability to represent the department effectively and professionally in Court situations, meetings, boards, committees, etc.
11. Ability to assess and address employee needs and issues.
12. Ability to coordinate communications needs with outside agencies.
13. Ability to plan and anticipate department/division manpower demands.
14. Ability to conduct meetings, develop workable plans, and prepare comprehensive reports, statistical data, specifications, and equipment proposals/recommendations.
15. Ability to configure computer databases to meet operational needs.
16. Ability to effectively troubleshoot communications equipment.
1. Must be available for on-call, night, and weekend shifts.
2. Must have training in the principles and servicing of radio subscriber troubleshooting and repair, Motorola Smart Zone management, and radio template building.
