Sheboygan County Head Start is Hiring a 4K Teacher Near Sheboygan, WI

Job description

Title: 4k Teacher

Status: Full Time/Part Year

*All Head Start Classrooms have a Lead Teacher and an Assistant Teacher

*Classroom size is no more than 20 children

Sheboygan County Head Start Preschool & Family Development Program

DUTIES:

1. Develops Weekly Planning Forms according to all Head Start Performance Standards with the assistant teacher. (No less than ½ hour daily with assistant for planning)

2. Plan, organize, and direct daily classroom activities.

3. Communicates with children in an appropriate manner.

4. Develop an Individual Education Plan for each Head Start Child using Creative Curriculum assessment tools. (See Procedures)

5. Comply with Wisconsin Statutes Children’s Code and Head Start Personnel Policies in suspected cases of child abuse or neglect. Records in bound medical log and file.

6. Assists in screening each new child in the Head Start Program

7. Conduct on-going observations and assessments on each child and record progress in the individual child’s file.

8. Responsible for recording of outcomes and outcome computer entry (CCPort). Refer to procedures.

9. Plan and participate in field trips that are developmentally appropriate.

10. Conduct the required amount of home visits each year in order to discuss the child’s development and progress. (Initial home visit, Fall conferences, Spring conference, and end of the year home visit.)

11. Responsible for the health and safety of the children, both in the classroom, outdoors on the playground, and on fieldtrips.

12. Will be responsible for giving medications as directed and trained, by the Head Start RN, for any children in their care. Examples of medications may include, but are not limited to: eye/ear drops, ointments, special feedings, oral medications, or injections.

13. Makes written referrals of children with Special Needs to the Special Needs/Mental Health Manager.

14. Teacher and Assistant will work together to collect and prepare materials as needed for learning activities.

15. Follow emergency procedures according to Head Start policies. Practice monthly fire/tornado drills with the children and staff. (Recorded by site cook).

16. Uses positive discipline techniques according to the Head Start Discipline Policy.

17. Contacts parents by phone or notes throughout the year to handle immediate concerns. Provides a weekly newsletter and monthly calendar to parents and is translated as needed.

18. Works with parents and volunteers to effectively use their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.

19. Assist and encourage parents to participate in all aspects of the program as described in the Performance Standards.

20. Work together with Family Support Specialists in planning monthly Family Activity Nights.

21. Provide information to parents concerning activities to do with their child in regard to growth and development and needs of the child.

22. Set up and take down the classroom as required by the host site.

23. Maintain and submit required records and reports in a neat, accurate, and timely manner; using Head Start required forms.

24. Maintain confidentiality at all times; both at work and in the community.

25. Attend appropriate in-house and other agency related meetings.

26. Attend Head Start provided in-services and take part in at least 25 hours of Continuing Education opportunities per year and record.

27. Follows Wisconsin Daycare Licensing Regulations.

28. Is an active member of the site team; performing any duties to make the site run efficiently and effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education with current Wisconsin Teaching License.

2. Head Start experience preferred.

3. Speaking and writing skills that enable effective communication.

4. Basic computer skills needed.

5. Skills and abilities to function as an effective, positive team member.

6. Must be able to work well with adults and children with varied backgrounds and beliefs.

7. Must be able to keep accurate files, file monthly reports, and make all documentation in timely manner.

8. Must be in good health and obtain a physical examination as required.

9. Must have Mantoux tuberculin testing upon hire.

10. Must have valid driver’s license. Automobile insurance, including liability, and an automobile for occasional use on the job.

11. Must be flexible and be able to occasionally work irregular hours.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Frequent significant decision and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to work as a team member collaborating with staff, parents and community resources.
  • Ability to supervise pre-school children and ensure a safe environment including the ability to monitor and respond to events going on at all times in classroom, outdoor play areas and on field trips. This includes the physical ability to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need restraint or redirection in order to insure their safety or the safety of others in the environment.
  • Ability to apply Early Childhood Development theory in daily activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to an emergency or a crisis situation.
  • Occasional driving for home visits sometimes in outlying areas.
  • Daily kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor to attend to children's needs.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
