Position Summary

Under direction of the Chief Medical Officer, the Clinic Physician will work in collaboration with the clinical care team in providing quality primary care services to patients of all ages in accordance with accepted standards of medical practice in an integrated healthcare setting. This role will also have a focus on the those patients in the community who are being tested for or are diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides patient services during time of facility operation as specified in policies and procedures

  • Provides medical direction for the facility’s healthcare activities and consultation for, and medical supervision of, the clinical staff, in the absence of the CMO.

  • Provides primary medical care as evidenced by compliance with the following standards:
    • Performs medical examinations, procedures and prescribes medications to patients as assigned or needed

    • Obtains history and performs physical examination to determine a diagnosis and treatment plan in accordance with established procedures and policies Requisitions lab tests and x-ray’s, writes prescriptions and makes referrals as deemed appropriate

      • Assesses, treats and manages specific illnesses and conditions according to medical regimens, utilizing established protocols
      • Advises patients on health care education issues when needed
      • Effectively and efficiently completes all paperwork requirements for billing and medical records compliance
      • Complete HIV testing and patient care for those with HIV/Aids, assisting in access and linkage to care.

  • Collaborate with Community Health, Dental, and Behavioral Health providers to help patients develop health management plans and goals including self-management, healthy living, and risk reduction.
  • Provide comprehensive medical support to patients to improve self-management skills and understand their HIV status.
  • Participates in quality improvement efforts
  • Works cooperatively with the CMO in providing clear medical documentation.
  • Works with CMO to facilitate Primary Care Center facility regulations/policies.
  • Maintains professional and congenial attitude toward patients.
  • Coordinates with other provider’s programs that address the unmet healthcare needs of a clinical or educational nature.
  • Participates in community outreach events.
  • Meets professional behavior expectations

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Family Medicine from an accredited medical school
  • Active license to practice medicine in the State of Kentucky
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Meds/Peds
  • Must have and maintain current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration.
  • Experience providing medical care, particularly with vulnerable and/or diverse population
  • Preferred experience with populations diagnosed with HIV.
  • CPR/BLS Certificate
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Knowledge of electron health record; preferably NextGen
  • Attend/complete CME annually as directed by the Kentucky State Board of Licensure
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to work efficiently in a clinical setting to meet productivity requirements
  • Must follow appropriate legal and ethical conduct
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgement in appraising clinical situations and decisions
  • Knowledge of community needs and initiatives and/or experience working in a community health setting or with low-income populations

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

Work is performed in clinical area and involves contact with patients

Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Contact involves dealing with sick persons

Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighting up to 30 pounds

Requires normal visual acuity and hearing

Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours

Local travel may be required to attend meetings or visit school based SCHC clinics

Out-of-town travel may be necessary for conferences and other learning opportunities
