DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Maintenance Foreperson – Electrical plans, organizes, and oversees electrical work for the maintenance, repair, alteration, and/or basic construction of District buildings, equipment, and facilities. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Employees in this classification train and oversee the work procedures and outcomes of others to accomplish projects. This job class requires a high degree of technical knowledge and ability in the area of electrical equipment operation and installation. This job class functions as both journey and foreman level of classifications.
CLASSIFICATION:Range 46 on the current Classified Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Examples of typical duties are descriptive and not restrictive in nature.
Essential Functions:

• Plan, organize, schedule, oversee, and perform journey level technical work including proper installation, operation, service, repair, adjustment, testing, and maintenance of the District's electrical systems and equipment.
• Oversee the work procedures and outcomes of Maintenance Electricians performing installation, operation, service, repair, adjustment, testing, and maintenance work.
• Maintain, test, inspect, repair, and recommend alterations or necessary electrical repairs for electrical systems and equipment, including high and low voltage light and power systems, clocks, fire alarms, analog communications systems; and electrically-operated, motor-driven equipment, machinery, and other tools.
• Maintain and troubleshoot solar equipment and when necessary oversee or perform tasks to Install, operate, provide proper connections for, and electrically maintain all alternative energy devices and equipment such as generators, photovoltaic systems, and any future alternative energy systems.
• Install and maintain generators for power outages and events including monitoring of load, shedding load as necessary, and refueling as necessary.
• Facilitate coordination with contractors, engineers, and architects, which includes investigating areas of work to be performed; locating and marking all underground electrical, alarm, and communication wires in areas to be excavated; opening gates; buildings, rooms, and panels for inspection; inspecting buildings and underground vaults for pathways to be utilized; and performing related functions in these areas.
• Facilitate the needs of use of facilities requests, which includes set up and breakdown of electrical components (cords, power strips, lighting, etc.) for events both on and off campus during regular and off hours.
• Design and engineer specifications and procedures for contractors and engineers, which includes product specs, District standards and procedures, cost estimations, plan checking, project follow up and inspection, and developing scopes of work.
• Install and monitor temporary metering equipment for buildings and parts of buildings to determine where electrical system upgrades are necessary for building remodels and additions.
• Install new electrical systems, wiring, and grounding systems.
• Maintains, tests, and adjusts all 12 KV substations and related switches, arrestors, and control level assembly.
• Install/oversee installation of data/communication cabling in accordance with policies and procedures outlined in Policy Physical Plant (Electricians / Information Technology) telecommunication/fiber optic cabling responsibilities.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
• Order tools, materials, and equipment as assigned.
• Maintain records and logs related to electrical systems, equipment, maintenance, and operations.
• Install, maintain, and repair electronic control equipment.
• Perform a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, and special project work as assigned.
• Performs all electrical work in conformance with building and safety codes.
• Performs other related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

Knowledge of:

• The methods, procedures, equipment, and tools related to electrical installation, operation, maintenance, adjustment, service, repair, and testing.
• Safety rules, policies, codes, and regulations related to electrical equipment installation, operation, maintenance, service, testing, adjustment, and repair.

Ability to:

• Perform highly skilled electrical maintenance, installation, conduit bending, and repair work.

• Establish and maintain accurate work logs and records.
• Understand and carry out complex instructions independently.
• Train, schedule, and oversee and direct the work procedures and outcomes of others in a lead capacity as assigned.
• Safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment used for building electrical maintenance.
• Quickly and effectively diagnose electrical maintenance, service, and repair issues and take appropriate action.
• Learn from errors, determine appropriate corrective action, and prevent repeated occurrences.
• Effectively communicate orally and in writing.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
• Safely and effectively work on ladders, scaffolding, rigging, scissor lifts, bucket trucks, booms, and roofs of varying heights.
• Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform the required duties.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, including those from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgrounds.

Experience/Education
Must have a valid California driver's license or obtain one within 90 days of employment.
Education Required:

• High school graduation or equivalent

Experience Required:

• Five years of journey level electrical work, including cost estimation

Experience Preferred:

• Two years' experience in a lead role with accountability for the work outcomes of others

New Classified Appointments will be placed at Step 1 on the Classified Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st if the hire date is before January 1st, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.
