Overview:
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000. The area is characterized by excellent schools with high graduation rates, low traffic, and low housing prices (Zillow average $393,000 vs. California state average of $770,000).

The Shasta College Library is seeking a part-time Librarian who is passionate about delivering student-centered information services. The librarian will provide leadership in developing, implementing, and assessing information literacy instruction sessions both online and in-person. In collaboration with staff and faculty, the successful candidate will also provide reference services, participate in collection development, and contribute to the development of the library's virtual and physical spaces and services. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable of current library trends in collections and information services.
Assignment Hours
The assignment is for Spring 2024, 14 hours per week, and preferred work assignment hours are between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday with some flexibility.
General Responsibilities
Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the librarian to perform duties as assigned and to perform those tasks that support the advancement of the vision, mission, and values of the community college district.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities designated below as essential functions are primary to the librarian role. Some of the listed essential functions are examples of activities. Related work may be assigned.
Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
Essential Functions:
  • Collaborate with discipline faculty to develop innovative and user-centered information literacy instructional programs that support curriculum
  • Teach course-integrated information literacy lessons (online and face-to-face)
  • Develop self-paced online information literacy lessons
  • Provide reference and research support in-person, chat, text, phone, email, and video conferencing
  • Coordinate access and discovery of print and electronic library materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on outreach efforts at all campuses
  • Participate in collection development and management
  • Fulfill all obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement
  • Coordinate Zero-textbook cost efforts on campus
Knowledge of:
  • face-to-face and online active learning strategies (and other teaching methods)
  • library service platforms (Alma/Primo preferred)
  • technology used for teaching and learning
  • library organization schemes and practices
  • technology used for reference and research
Ability to:
  • effectively communicate in-person, in writing, and online
  • exercise initiative and creativity to engage faculty and students across the District
  • work creatively and collaboratively in a rapidly changing environment
  • leverage technology to teach and promote library services
Experience/Education
Minimum qualifications:
Master's in library science, library and information science,
