Sharon Public Schools is Hiring an Instructional Assistant - LEAP Program R188 Near Sharon, MA

East is seeking an Assistant to work in our Language Extension & Practice Program (LEAP). 

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum high school diploma, two years post high school education preferred.

REPORT TO: Building Principal/ Assistant Principal, Director of Student Services, General Education Teacher

General Description: To assist teachers in providing students with a nurturing , supportive and collaborative environment where curriculum and instruction is aligned to standards and the needs of each child. Instructional Assistants are dependable, flexible, and self-motivated and comfortable working with a variety of personalities and at all times demonstrate respect for students' differences. Responsibilities will vary according to the school, students, and program where the instructional assistant is assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct and maintain strict standards of student and family confidentiality.
  • Become familiar with student IEP, social/emotional and or behavioral needs.
  • Assist with specific student supports, either as individual or small groups in the implementation of educational and/or IEP goals and benchmarks.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse learning styles.
  • Reinforce the principles of social interaction programs by modeling positive behavior.
  • Provide support services in all environments of the school setting under the guidance of the special education liaison, related service providers, academic and behavioral interventionists and building principal. 
  • Provide behavioral supports including but not limited to data collection, student specific accommodations, and implementation of behavior support plan.
  • Maintains a positive attitude, behavior and language towards students at all times.
  • Report any issues directly to the classroom teacher.
  • Follow special education teacher’s designed modifications to student lessons.
  • Assist substitute assigned to the classroom when a teacher is absent or attending meetings.
  • Follow IEP accommodations as directed by a Special Education Teacher.
  • Attend Professional Development as assigned.
  • Assist students with transitions from classroom to buses.

Performs other duties as assigned.
