# Job Summary # # Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician performs a variety of specialized technical duties in the surgical environment. # Education Degree Obtained Program of Study Required/Preferred # # # Educational Requirements Education: Surgical Tech I # II: -Successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologist; OR -Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the army, navy, air force, marine corps or coast guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health: OR -Was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before 9/1/2009. # Experience Years of Experience Type of Experience Required/Preferred # # # # Certification # Licensures Certification # Licensures Required/Preferred CERT SURGICAL TECH Required within 90 days BLS Required Additional Comments Surgical Tech I: -Experience as a Surgical Technician preferred. License, Certification or Registration: Surgical Tech I -New graduates form an accredited surgical technology program must obtain certification as a surgical technologist within 180 days from graduation. Surgical Tech II: -Maintain certification as a surgical technologist by: a. The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor; b. The National Center for Competency Testing or its successor; or C. Another surgical technologist certification program approved by the department.
