CNC Operator
The primary objective of the CNC Machine Operator is to operate and maintain a variety of machines to perform assigned tasks including but not limited to Water Jet/s, Router Table/s, and all related supporting equipment, etc. to produce precision parts both for the company (SF Metalworks) and clients. The CNC Machine Operator will work closely with the Operations and Production team in receiving work orders, communicating lead times, assisting with producing client facing estimates, forecasting material and resource needs as well as producing regular feedback documentation, i.e. time tracking, project related after action reports, cost analysis reports, etc. for the purpose of tracking and improving our overall performance. Reports to: Shop Operations Manager. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: - Set up machines in preparation for daily production. - Maintain machines; including but not limited to daily, periodic and potentially overhaul maintenance. - Assist with material orders as necessary or when assigned for production projects. - Assist with maintaining spare parts inventory for production and supporting equipment. - Receive and inspect stock material and report any damage or incomplete orders at the time of receipt. Also, notify production of material upon arrival per project / order. - Pull the appropriate / assigned material for each project from inventory racking using the appropriate equipment, i.e. forklift, overhead crane, suction or magnetic material handlers, etc. in order to efficiently but carefully move the stock from storage to the machine for processing. A prime objective in this process is to defend your personal safety as well as avoid damage to the stock before, during and after the material is processed so that we can ship premium, damage-free parts. - Utilize the appropriate / assigned machine to process precision, damage-free parts per project specifications. - Alert Production and Operations of completion per project. - Prepare parts for shipping. - Clean machine and work area at the completion of each project or at minimum, the end of each shift. - Mark drop material, return to appropriate storage area and enter relevant data into inventory management system (this includes reporting on current material condition, i.e. indicating existent damage). - Attend Production meetings as requested / assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: - Proficiency in CAM interface with CNC cutting equipment, i.e., interpreting project specific data input needs, troubleshooting and forecasting problems with cutting programs. - Able to troubleshoot and analyze pure CNC G-code. - Willingness and interest to learn new machinery and techniques. - Experience with High precision machining techniques (sub .001" machining). - Physical finishing and post machine clean up work are a plus. - Able to navigate with precision to ensure attention to detail and foresight to determine when a project won’t complete in the intended way. - Able to Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. REQUIREMENTS & CERTIFICATIONS: - 2 years proven experience as a Machine Operator. - Experience with High precision machining techniques (sub .001" machining). - Forklift operation certification. - Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (mill, lathe, grinder, router, etc.). - Ability to use precision tools (e.g., calipers) to take accurate measurements. - Knowledge of the properties of metal and other material. - Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals. - Ability to use/learn desktop computer programs including basics like Google Suite, Slack, Dropbox, video calling, etc. - Experience using desktop design software a plus (such as Rhino 6 , Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite). - Good at math with analytical abilities. - Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items. - High school diploma or equivalent; completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship will be an asset. PHYSICAL DEMAND & WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position requires working in a medium industrial setting where the noise level in the building can be loud. This role requires the use of CNC cutting equipment that can be dangerous if not handled safely and responsibly. Employees must be able to lift 50 to 75 lbs repeatedly. Position regularly requires employees to walk, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, reach overhead, and climb stairs and ladders. May include standing for up to 10 hours in a day. HOURS & COMPENSATION: 30–40 hours per week and the hours are generally 6:00am–4:30pm, Monday–Thursday. Salary is $25–30/hr based on experience. This is a general outline of the tasks that the position entails and may include other responsibilities as the need arises or may be modified at any time.
